FIFA World Cup 2026

You may have heard, the 2026 Football World Cup is being hosted by three different nations, Canada, Mexico and the USA.

It is not without its controversy.

Somalian referee refused entry to the USA.

Iranian team is based in Mexico. They can enter the US but must return to their base in Mexico on the same day.

Head of Palestinian FA refused entry.

Perhaps the most controversial act thus far occurred prior to the tournament beginning. In the most appalling act of sycophancy, Donald J Trump was presented with the inaugural FIFA peace medal by FIFA president, Gianni Infantino.

Hailed as the Greatest Show on Earth, Mister Trump says there is great excitement in the country - bordering on mass-hysteria.

Are you interested? Will you be watching?

I’ll probably catch some matches, yea..

I’m not a fan of living amongst imported criminals, but you/others do you.

K: ah dear sir, as usual IQ45 is wrong… there is very little interest
going on right now about the World Cup…and as not one of the
countries, US, Mexico or Canada will go anywhere in the tourney,
it will be the individuals from winning games that will be excited…
I have a WC game being played about 20 minutes from here,
Santa Clara, and I notice very little being said about it around here…

as we go later into the tourney, the excitement might, might go
up, but as of right now, no… (in fact, I am willing to bet the
game in Santa Clara is not sold out)

PS: I am rooting for Mexico as they are probably the best team
not to have won a tourney… and I like England’s chances this
tourney… and the dark horse team I hear about is Japan…

Thanks for your reasoned response, Kropotkin. I believe there are six games scheduled for Santa Clara.

Match Schedule at Levi’s Stadium (Santa Clara, CA)

  • Saturday, June 13, 2026 – 12:00 PM PT
    Qatar vs Switzerland (Group B)
  • Tuesday, June 16, 2026 – 9:00 PM PT
    Austria vs Jordan (Group J)
  • Friday, June 19, 2026 – 9:00 PM PT
Turkey vs Paraguay (Group D, UEFA Playoff C winner vs Paraguay)
  • Monday, June 22, 2026 – 8:00 PM PT
    Jordan vs Algeria (Group J)
  • Thursday, June 25, 2026 – 7:00 PM PT
    Paraguay vs Australia (Group D)
  • Wednesday, July 1, 2026 – 5:00 PM PT
Round of 32: Group D winner vs Group B/E/F/I/J third-place team (knockout match)
All matches are scheduled at Levi’s Stadium, which has a tournament capacity of approximately 68,500 and is located at 4900 Marie P DeBartolo Way, Santa Clara, California

68,500 capacity will take some filling. It will be interesting to see just how many fans turn up to support the much-travelled teams. 20 minutes away - the opportunity to see Jordan awaits! Twice! How many men can say that?

Mexico? That would be nice.
England? I am surprised by your optimism.
Japan? No idea. Tanaka plays for Leeds. On his day, he is a very influential figure. Playing for his nation will likely raise his level.

Mags, I’m not sure what you had in mind. Regarding criminals, I live in the UK. Last year there were 9.6 million recorded crimes (Crime survey for England and Wales CSEW) As you can see I’m surrounded by criminals - importing one or two more may increase the statistics by, what do you suppose? 000.what %? What, exactly, was your point?

Canada 1 Bosnia and Herzegovina 1
An enjoyable spectacle.

Earlier, 3am (what idiot is awake at 3am?) South Korea 2 Czechia 1

Earlier still - Mexico defeated an ill-disciplined South Africa team, 2-0.

Stay tuned for further updates.

Over to Suzie with the weather. Suzie, I hear one or two English players, and a number of commentators are not entirely happy with the weather they may encounter - do you have any good news for them?
No, but I can tell you what Thomas Tuchel said.
Do tell.

Thank you, Suzie.

Why is the US hosting it anyway? It has no interest in sporting events outside the US apart from the Olympics. All of its major sporting events are between Americans. Perhaps if it actually played sport with the rest of the planet then it wouldn’t be such a warmonger attacking countries all the time. Other countries have long traditions of sporting rivalry between each other. Not the US though. It’s too high and mighty for that.

The USA are looking quite tasty! 2 nil up against Paraguay.

Half time USA 3 Paraguay 0.

“Absolutely sensational.” “They look incredible.” “They could win the world cup.”

You’re not a fan! It’s looking good! :joy:

It’s always about food with Americans

Do you think that every nation would be the same, given the opportunity?

I take it you are not watching the game? Some of the football It’s playing is scrumptious!

Lowest common denominator. A sad fact with humans.

You’re not a fan?

It’s still got Brendan Aaronson waiting in the wings. He will shine when he gets his opportunity. He is quite slim.

The boot of choice for the 2026 world cup is pink.

Paraguay pulled a goal back. 3-1. Reyna was then granted the freedom of the LA stadium, enabling him to make it 4-1 USA at the final whistle. Two days in and it’s the best team performance thus far.

K: you are correct but if I was the Paraguay team, I’d be less than
happy with the officiating… and Miss Ophelia seems to be delusional…
You aren’t fat and you’re not an American, so what is she going on about?
I am not skinny and I am American, she would have better sent that insult
to me, not you…

OH, and BTW, if England were to win the WC, that would easily
the biggest party Earth has ever seen, and I will be right there
with the largest Union Jack flag, I can find… well, the second
biggest party in Earth’s history, when IQ45 dies, that will be
the biggest party ever in the history of Earth…

Kropotkin

I do believe Mistress Ophelia has had something of an upset in a bygone age.

If England don’t win the World Cup the fans will know where the blame lies. It won’t be down to the heat or the humidity or the lack of hydration or the lack of ability. No, it will be Sir Keir Starmer’s fault.

Iran vs New Zealand. Another early kick off! Intrigued to see what kind of reception the Iranian team receives.

Cape Verde, population 4,708 (approx) held European champs Spain to a draw. :open_mouth:

Fucking win.

Spoken like a true ignorant.

The US has always made a decent showing in the world cup.

It may or may not surprise you to know that it would be fucking expensive, and taxing on players, to travel overseas regularly for a sporting season’s games.

But don’t let me grab your righteousness cocaine from you.

Peace, such an ambiguous word. So many interpretations! :joy:

The Beautiful Game! One of life’s great mysteries. If Mister Donald Trump had destroyed an Iranian Primary School, killing 150 young children in November… would President Infantino go ahead with an inaugural Peace Medal presentation ceremony in December? Only Mister Infantino can answer that question.

So the richest country can’t afford it but the poorest countries can? Got it.

No team from any country flies a 8-14 hour flight spanning as many time zones to go to a regular season game of any sport.

I don’t know which poor countries you think do this. By the way countries don’t do this. Sports teams do.
