I’m hoping the ref just let’s them get on with it. Seems unfair to have dished out two yellows when he could have quite easily dished out seven or eight cards.
England scores

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
well, it proves that Argentina still has some luck left…
that was as disappointing game as I have seen in some time…
well, for me, the World cup is over… Onto basketball season…
Go Warriors…

An all Hispanic final.
Like God intended
How boring.
I can’t stand Spain anyway, with its vile bullfighting and annoying language, so I hope they lose.
They outlawed bullfighting years ago.
It’s a country of women now.
Not true. And yeah, enlightenment and revulsion at the torture of sentient beings is so ‘unmanly’.
Really? They’re still doing it?
They did outlaw it, maybe they brought it back. No wonder their team is so good. There’s hope in the world.
Yes. Google it. I thought it was outlawed years ago too. What a sadistic little prick you are. You don’t deserve to be happy.
In 1985, I was in Spain, Madrid, and I was hanging out with
some other people, they wanted to go see a bullfight, I passed,
and when they came back, all of them, a couple of women
and three guys, all were disgusted by it… to this day, I am glad
I passed on that…

So you have one redeeming quality. That’s something I suppose.

And yet some believe there is hope for the world whilst men are still free to torment a majestic beast. Ifs and buts.
I share your views, PK. I did the same back in the seventies, I went to Spain with a number of mates. Declined the trip.
The game? Still perplexed. Possession up to the 55th minute was roughly 54% - 46% in England’s favour.
If England had continued to adopt the style of play they adopted for the first 55 minutes, for the full 90 minutes, I do believe they would have triumphed.
But they didn’t. From the 55th minute onward, England inexplicably decided to sit back and try and defend their slender one goal lead - effectively saying to the reigning world champions, 'Come on, let’s see what you’ve got?"
Thereafter, for what remained of the game, Argentina enjoyed 88% possession! 88% - 12%!
Messi did just as he pleased. Always, always finding the spaces. He ran the game. From and England fans point of view, it was a horror show.
Unsurprisingly, England paid the price, Argentina scored two late goals. They might have had more! Pickford was called upon to make a couple of decent saves. Argentina struck the post twice!
England will forever ask themselves, what on Earth possessed us to sit back and hope for the best? Against the World Champions! Folly.
Left with a great big WHAT IF!
What if we hadn’t employed those disastrous tactics?
Fortunately, Thomas Tuchel is well-equipped to cope with the criticism that will come his way.
2 games left.
I have to admit that was a pretty nice analysis.
You can’t defend against Messi. You have to shove the ball down his throat.
And English football has always been primed for that.
You’re too uptight.
In the playoff to decide the 3rd and 4th place finishers, England led France 4 - 0 at halftime - fair to say they gave France a 1st half tonking!
The French turned up in the second half! Once again, as happened against Argentina, England were pinned back in their own half.
Having failed to protect a one goal lead against Argentina, the world champions, England were confident that they could preserve a four goal lead against the beaten finalists in the '22 world cup final.
48th minute 4-1
54th minute 4-2
66th minute 4-3
The French then missed a host of golden opportunities, Olise - reported to be the subject of a 220 million euro bid by Real Madrid - being the main culprit, he missed two absolute sitters!
In the 87th minute, in a rare breakaway, England were awarded a penalty. It was dispatched by hat-trick hero, Bukayo Saka, 5-3. Relief! Game over!
Hang on!
90+6 5-4, more panic in the England ranks. There was still enough time for the French side to get an equaliser! Heart in mouth time for England fans . . .
Annnnd relax!
90+8 6-4 England. A superb individual effort by the majestic Jude Bellingham (the player of the tournament in the 2030 tournament) ![]()
A thoroughly entertaining game - once again, Thomas Tuchel’s tactical nous was called into question.
Later today, the main event. Spain v Argentina - will it be another ten goal thriller?
We’ll see! ![]()
Game over and Spain won… not a great game… yesterday’s
France and England was a much better game…
I don’t think that red card was deserved…and given the situation,
the finals of the world cup, I think it was overreaching by the ref…
or FIFA really wanted Spain to win and in any way possible…
Messi was really a non-factor in his last world cup game…
grade this game as an c+…

Where’s my million dolla?
Spain 1 Argentina 0 aet. The final was the 104th game. Who would argue that they saved the worst til last? In two hours of football Argentina didn’t manage to get a shot on target. Very disappointing.
Generous, PK. It’s all about opinions. Fernandez was already on a yellow card when he committed the foul. He wasn’t looking at the ball; he only had eyes for the onrushing Cubarsi. It wasn’t a nice challenge, made to look a lot worse with the Spaniard doing a flying somersault! ![]()
Be nice to come back in four years time. Host nations for the 2030 world cup: Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
The End.
