I heard you but I didn’t understand what you meant, thus the question?

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit even when used correctly an angel dies, and God gets pissed.

No I kid, when used correctly it’s a blast.

Reminds me of the Fast Show. The guy used to go on these long monologues ending with something absurd like:
“and I was just rummaging around in the attic and I found an original copy of The Bible… which was nice”

Although you’re right I did mean it a little dryly.

I was up at 5 in the AM because my dog got me up so that I could play ball with him? Unbefrickingleivable!

Of course he’s dead now.

It is the elixir picked and supervised by Jesus and pressed lovingly by naked virgins at the equinox.

I hate wine snobs don’t you? But yeah neither is 20 year old single malt. But crap wine you can down in one to avoid having to taste it.

I like JD and SC.

I have tried 7-up but not with cherry vodka, I fear if I did that my reputation as a man would be dented so badly I’d have to drink meths and gasoline flaming cocktails for the rest of the evening.

I wasn’t blaming California. I was blaming a particular '70’s-era governor of that state who made poor decisions. I assume those decisions were the result of his political philosophy, which is generally considered to be conservative. I suppose I could be wrong and he instead made them because he was an evil, misanthropic bastard. I’m open to that construction, as well.

The fact is that only a small percentage of mentally ill people need to be institutionalized. The sadder fact is that adequate resources are seldom available for the rest of the mentally ill people that could live with more independence (even with partial supervision and follow-up to assure they take proper care of themselves) if they could get the assistance. See, the deal about mentally ill people is that we aren’t supposed to blame them for being ill – or for doing what mentally ill people do – we’re instead supposed to help them manage some semblance of a decent and dignified life. Now, you understand, I’m talking about in a civilized society. Generally speaking, that is, and averaging it out so that the various outlying sub-cultures don’t overly skew the results. We’re supposed to view this as a public health issue, not as a morality tale. Although I have no idea what such a concept would even mean to those inhabiting the wilds of rural Maine. It’s not likely a place where one has to feel uncomfortable by the presence of large numbers of mentally ill homeless people, maybe just a relatively few eccentric types who live in isolated shacks. I daresay I can’t imagine what “public heath” even is about there. Of course, if every place that has crazy homeless people would just lock 'em away, then we could all pretend they don’t exist, regardless of where we live. And the rural folk could stop wasting time on society’s bigger problems like the mentally-ill homeless and get back to enjoying their fundamental forms of entertainment, like smokin pot, shootin guns and all that other cool redneck sh*t. It’s rather ironic that the one thing the two groups have in common is that deep appreciation for drugs. As for California, it’s likely there are even places in this state, way back out of urban view, where such forms of entertainment are the norm. Probably one reason the homeless don’t stick around those environs: they might like to partake in some of the drugging, but are a little leary about being around dopers with guns, however mellow they might seem to be on the surface.

Sign me up. In fact, we can take it even further and separate the USA along those lines. Sure, if you’d like I’ll go along with the ridiculous stereotype that there are two Americas (instead of many), one of which is ‘real’, of guns and god and family values and all that crap, and one of which is unpatriotic, godless, elite, and socialistic and no guns allowed. Red and Blue. Blue gets the coasts and maybe chunks of Wisconsin and Minnesota. Red gets the south, the rust belt, those big-sky cowboy states (except for Brokeback Mountain and the good national parks) and, of course, midwestern Jesusland. Blue gets to keep its intellectual elites, its universities and its jobs. Oh, and we aren’t sending you Reds any more of our tax dollars. You’re on your own, suckers. Go invent the wheel.

I’m going to need to check that out. I’ll Google and see if there is a website for it. By the way, what do you think of Red Dwarf? That’s my favourite British sitcom, the first four or five seasons, anyway.

That was good. lol

Yeah, last time I really got hammered on it I thought I pressed a naked virgin at the equinox. Turned out it was just a fat prostitute, though, oh well.

MD 20/20. I don’t even think they try to lie anymore, I’m pretty sure they refer to it as a, “Wine Beverage,” now.

I used to really be into different kinds of beer, but now I mostly drink liquor.

Jack and coke! I don’t much care for SoCo.

LOL

It’s still 80-proof. The only difference between it and any other 80-proof vodka is it tastes like cherries.

Disaronno tastes like cherries, and that is one of the two components of a Godfather. By the way, your British so you should know something about gin, is there any better than Bombay Sapphire in your opinion?

Ingenium - Well, the people of California elected him. So it’s their fault.

You’re not listening. I spent 43 years in an old industrial city in Massachusetts. Some of that time across the street from a mental health clinic. With an amateur social worker for a mom. I knew some people who lived at a place called Jerry’s Lodging, but who also lived part of their lives on the streets. Probably all of the homeless people that I have known were mentally ill.

Clearly, you can’t. Or you’d know how much money Dorothy Walker Bush donated to the Southern Maine Medical Center.
Google an image of the Dorothy Walker Bush Pavilion. Or look up the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

I am no advocate of that. In fact, I think the present circumstance is a great improvement over the old way.

Maine is about 50/50 urban to rural. We do like to smoke pot and shoot guns, yes. We also employ a shit-ton of social workers.

I knew you’d come around.

Funny thing is that I am an atheist/social liberal.

But let’s not get bogged down with details.

If there is I haven’t tasted it.

Very much an acquired taste “The Fast Show”. Very British and quite mental. Johnny Depp is a big fan so by extension some Americans must like it for it to be on their TV, if indeed it is. He’s even in one of the “suit you, Sir!” episodes and is an excellent straight guy.

“In a hole with an owl!”

Oddly the most memorable sketch is the gay Lord, and the menial servant, it’s a sexual tension thing. And its not even that funny its just wonderfully understated. The love that dare not speak it’s name…

Long time lover of Red Dwarf. There were 3 new episodes recently, modelled around a sort of Blade Runner thing, did you see them? They were good IMO. What’s the opposite of a despair squid?

Bombay Saphire, truly a worty drink by itself or with a grapefruit soda mixer such as Squirt.
An excellent conoction for a hot summer’s eve. Also excellent when used with sherbet as an icy refreshing drink.
Damn, Now I need to go buy some, I have not had any around here in ages. Thanks for teasing my tastebuds. :unamused:

Every holes a goal as they say! Could be worse it could of been a man. :-&

That was pretty funny. I’ve always sort of liked the way British comedy is mostly language and interpersonal relations driven. It tells a pretty good story. What I mean is that you could pull a random conversation between two characters out of a show (where they do not reference how they know one another) and you can usually figure out how they know one another. British comedy is generally not over the top, real people doing real things in many cases, maybe a little exaggerated, but not to too bad an extent. Definitely more witty than regular people, if it wasn’t, it wouldn’t be on TV.

Master-Slave thing? Good play.

A happy, something that is not a squid?

I’ll have to check out the new episodes. My Top Three Favorite Episodes are Probably:

1.) Quarantine
2.) The Inquisitor
3.) Queeg

My favorite scene is the one from, “Quarantine,” with Rimmer in the checked Gingham dress, etc. You have to know which one I am talking about! Someone could mention that to me fifty years from now and I will laugh hysterically!

The dialogue between Lister and Kryten was hilarious, as well. Did you know that they had to re-shoot that scene for an hour because they couldn’t stop laughing? Also, that was one of the lowest budget episodes!

On top of that, Dr. Hildegarde pulls out a little Schopenhauer, how can you argue with that?

I said I’d tell you what was funny.

Seriously, what’s so hard to understand about that?

Coming from a relatively middle class city, I don’t have much experience with hoboes. But the San Franciscan one’s annoy the hell out of me. To be honest, they should actually try to help the homeless people a little bit more. I’m not saying, give them all a house and food and leave them alone, I mean put the crazy ones in the mental hospital, the junkies in rehab, and the rest in shelters and help them find work.

Wait, I used to smoke weed with some 60-year old Native American hippie hobo a couple years back. I think he just didn’t want to work, he could easily have gotten a job, he wasn’t crazy as far as I could tell, just always really high.

I am trying to picture a homeless person round up. Just who goes and finds all these folks? And just where do you get the facilities to put them? Who feeds them clothes them medicates them? I mean really, you all do realize that you are talking about something that most people would maybe volunteer to do for a week then they would quit from frustration or something else. Want to pay people? Sure that will work go ask some over worked underpaid Social Workers how well they feel about their jobs. Wanting to help is admirable but reality is a hard cold cocked upper right to the jaw. There are not enough diversely well trained caring people to deal with others with mental conditions that homeless will have and Just how many neighborhoods would welcome a house full of homeless people or houses full? And well its kind of like right to lifers . They don’t want you to abort your fetus but, they won’t cough up the cost of raising it either. Just as a protester to pay for one, you get every thing but an affirmative answer of payment. This is no different. Those that wish to help out the homeless are you willing to foot the bill for one or two out of your own pocket? Its an admirable thing to want to help but put your money where your mouth is prove that you truly are willing to do something. Open that purse or wallet. It will only cost you an extra $20,000 a year maybe less maybe more. Any takers?

 your a comedian.

I don’t think we share a sense of humour. You probably get Seinfeld.

It’s based on a real life person who was a concierge at a hotel, so I hear.

Hope squid.

Hammond and organ treats?

Justify your existence.

April may june july fools! I am the king of the japesters. Holy is a genius? Well maybe.

Unforgettable.

Don’t remember that bit.

Not surprising.

Still a squid, so not a true opposite.

Luck Virus.

“Oh, smeg.”

LMAO

For those unfamiliar with Red Dwarf, “Life without pain has no meaning.”

Kriswest:

Yeah, It is pretty unrealistic. But it would be nice if it worked. Those people should get paid more though.

About half of all homeless are mentally ill, so the reason that guy can’t come cut your lawn is likely that he’s too busy fighting panic attacks or hallucinations.

Yes they have no consideration, you arrange to meet them at one time and they turn up drunk at another time and steal your TV. Like Sir Digby Chicken Caesar Salad, he is my arch nemesis you know. obscure English comedy reference alert

Yea utopia is a nice dream to have. But we deny what we are so we can’t fix ourselves or evolve past the earthly genetic instincts we have. We should do this we should do that, but how to get past those damn ugly instincts of self preservation. We are not hive creatures working for one goal. We are self indulgent capitalistic territorial creatures like most earth species are.
Yes those that care and educate humans should recieve more benifits and we should actively recruit more. But until there is agreement on base needs there won’t be. Don’t give up the dream just find ways to make it actually truly work for everyone, those that need it and those that must bear the brunt of helping. Our young are always our best hopes and assets.

You’re starting to get it

Seinfeld’s not really my thing…I like it, but I don’t go out of my way to watch.

I can be dry, though.
