So you try once, fail, and give up for eternity?? That’s wise.
I’m sure if this philosophy forum does not integrate Futurism, be god damned sure, another will pick up the slack and draw resources where we could not.
Since I’m the one who came up with the not so brilliant idea of a futurism forum and succeeded in convincing Carleas to go to the effort of putting it on the map, I can make an observation or two. The original idea was to provide a forum to discuss our current problems and to begin discussion toward coherent policies for the future. I thought there might be interest since it’s our asses on the line. I was wrong. It quickly turned into a forum where people spun out cotton candy conjecture with little or no connection to any current reality. In retrospect, I’ve come to the conclusion that people really don’t want to work for any future beyond maybe next week. I still think the concept was valid, but the vote of the membership was fail. (shrug)
On the other hand, we’re only talking virtual space here, it’s not like anyone has to pick up a hammer and build the damn thing from scratch. It’s another moderator perhaps, which may or may not be a problem.
Nah, Tentative did put the time in there as moderator, and I remember things did go kinda pear-shaped.
Why not start a few test threads in natural science or something Debaitor - if they pan out, then maybe the question of the futurist forum can be more seriously considered…?
As moderators, we are neutral when it comes to our members, as doing what is best for ILP is our main agenda here and everything else is secondary to that.
Conceivably, ILP could have hundreds of dedicated forums, each tailored to the whims of a specific member. To the extent that you try to do everything, you end up doing nothing. Drawing the line is… well, drawing the line. There needs to be enough interest by enough members to justify the extra bandwith needed to put a forum or sub-forum up on the boards. It may be a judgement call, but unless you own the site, it ain’t your call. There are millions of special interest dedicated sites on the internet. They’re called blogs… :-"
Either this philosophy website will lead the way concerning world ideologies, new thought and belief systems, or not.
It really doesn’t matter to me, because, I have no reservation or loyalty hindering me from jumping ship. I would join a new philosophy forum should it outperform this one.
That said, there is no good or valid reason against starting a Futurist Forum.
Tab, I will indeed bring up futurism in the Natural Science section. I have a good thread already lined-up for debate.
Perhaps Futurism could be a sub-forum OF the Natural Science forum - sub-forums seem to be the way to go, rather than creating new forums for the sake of better categorisation…
The body part I use when exercising my moderating skills are a little higher up than that guys, but it’s nice to know that you are being objective in your subjectivity where I am concerned
