Hamas is the aggressor. If they stopped aggressing, it would not trigger defensive action. Israel has always provided for a space for coexistence until they are attacked—Hamas does not allow that space.
There comes a point when allowing patterns of aggression to continue is a failure to responsibly protect those in your sphere of influence. That includes the many parts of Israel where Arabs (over 20% of Israel) and Jews live(d) peacefully … even having theaters which have shows in the languages of both … because when Hamas (etc.) is not aggressing, coexistence is possible…
