Hendrix and the Star Spangled Banner

So, do you think that hendrix’s version of the Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock was patriotic or traitorous? That is was Hendrix supporting the US or mocking it?

hendrix was wearing a bandana with acid on it, i don’t think he knew what he was doing

this is an urban legend and you mentioning it reveals how little you actually know about hendrix.

no, i remember watching a show on vh1, or some other channel saying that he did that. it was a long time ago, i think i may have a book on it too. and please don’t tell me hendrix was the best guitarist, his stuff is good, really good, but he is not the best. but anyways.
i don’t have an opinion on this. what is yours?

your dawdling explanation as to the source of your information only confirms my statement that it is in fact an urban legend

then who exactly would be the best guitar player?

i’ll read my book, and research it online, if i was right, i was right, if it is in fact an urban legend, i’m sorry. but yes hendrix is amazing, but there is no way you can measure who is the best guitar player, he plays blues, psychedelic, and all other types of rock, but is he better at playing jazz than Wes Montgomery? better at playing power metal than John Petrucci? in my opinion, there is no greatest guitarist, every guitarist sucks in some way compared to the image of the best player. the best player should have equal and high qualities in every single type of guitar technique and know all theory. hendrix messed up various times, but something he did do that was awesome, was that he bent the notes he messed up on to make them right. he is very good, but he isn’t the best, there is no best. it’s like asking who is the best philosopher? it’s very broad, and there are many different variables needed to take into account. not opinions

Given the context of the time, with veterans lining up to throw their medals at the capitol in protest (even John Kerry did this), and given Hendrix’s stature as a symbol of anti-establishment angst, I don’t know how you could be so stupid as to ask such a question. I mean, really. You can even hear him imitate police sirens and the screams of rioting protestors. Or were you being sarcastic with this statement?

Because, dumbass, Hendrix was in the 101st and his ass would have been in Vietnam if he had not broken his leg in 1963/64. Kerry didn’t throw his medals away until like 1971 after Woodstock. I foundamentally think that it was A very patriotic gesture of a man who loved his country and yet had A problem with the direction the federal government had taken it. Finally Hendrix himself says he’s not a hippy in the song “If 6 was 9” so this whole bullshit of him being a “symbol of anti-establishment angst” is probably a little bit of retrospective simplification. Besides Hendrix is a really interesting and kind of simple guy - if you listen to the newer version of the Band of Gypsys concerts “Live at The Fillmore East” at one point he says he was so glad to hear that the USC Trojan beat the hell out of Michigan. It’s so great to hear this far out dude say somthing so normal. I have also read in several places that Chas Chandler and then hendrix’s later managers kept him fucked up on whatever drugs they had on hand so as to keep him tractable. In fact when he was on the Chitlin Circuit with guys like Curtis Knight, he’s only ever reported to drink or smoke.

Ditto, I advise you watch your tone when you post out your ass.

Finally is it fun being so intellectually lazy as to accept the history as it’s shoveled down your throat, without stopping and actually tasting the dog shit history that they’re feeding you. you ever consider that if you learned to cook, you might be able to eat like a man instead of eating shoveled shit?

Funny that after all your effort into typing that, you couldn’t come up with a single argument against it being a protest.

Might I suggest in the future that you stick to the argument at hand instead of diving into an irrelevent emotional reactionary ramble. It would make the thread more interesting. btw, I don’t recall talking any history lessons on the subject.

please don’t ignore me
