Suppose that we are not simply random offspring of genetic mutation through fertilization. Suppose that our lives are somehow a reconciliation of our parents. That life itself involves a union of your parent’s values integrated within your own. Suppose, even if you were born of a pitri dish, that even primary designers of your birth are inexorably tied to your existence.
What would you do? What challenges would you face? In light of the idea that you must somehow sanctify your literal “creators” in order to be noble, complete.
I suspect that there is some sort of Jungian synchronicity, a “fate” that you must uphold.
In honour of your parents- What is your fate? Your Dharma? Your destiny?
I don’t fear the concept of your posings - my parents only ever had my best interests at heart, so I wouldn’t be phased by such a concept as you have put forward. In-fact, I’d probably be far wealthier than I am now if I was operating under their directives: for they always knew what was best for me more than I ever did.
Your question reminds me of the movie about twins resulting from a genetic experiment. The twin who was physically attractive was given a nice home and advantages, and the twin who was not so physically attractive was left in an orphanage. Obviously these were not identical twins, but it wasn’t just their genetic difference that made the different. I think the strongly influence is the people and events who/that influence the developing child.
To a very large degree, we products of our time. Following the baby boomers is a lost generation, and this was the result in changes in education and social changes, that tore the young from their parents. There has always been difference between generations, but because of very rapid and dramatic social changes, this was not the normal difference, but a huge gap between generations. Another term for this was “youth crisis”, and we wrongly blamed the parents for this, not the change in public education that changed a generation and continues to take our youth on a different path than the one taken in the past. This is education for a technological society with unknown values, contrasted to transmitting a culture that assured shared values.
Honoring our parents once meant cultural continuation, like the native Americans honoring their past. What has happened in the US as the result of education for a technological society with unknown values, is a complete break from the past, and neither parents nor those before them, nor knowledge of our history is honored. This is the New World Order with unknown values, except that investing in military weapons is the safest investment right now, and we do share the value of money, even though the value of the dollar is going down.
