There are some that I don’t really use, so for those I put how I interpret them.
- I like this post.
- I acknowledge or affirm this post.
- This post is bad and you should feel bad.
- Laughter, usually derisive (I don’t use this frequently, and never derisively)
- Surprise (I don’t use this frequently)
- Particularly well said.
- This one is hard to put into words. It’s kind of like saying “wheee!” to something inevitable, like we’re 'just along for the ride".
- “Thank you.”
- Confusion or uncertainty about what you’re saying or how what you’re saying relates to your position. I don’t use this often, and I interpret it positively when others use it.
- I don’t use this frequently, and don’t know what it means.
- Misinformation (specifically added following discussion here)
- This has a history on ILP. I started using it to be self-deprecating in relation to my frequent failures as an administrator, especially on the technical side of keeping the server working. Then I started including it most announcements. And now I think of it as a kind of site mascot. As a reaction, I use it to acknowledge our endearing imperfections.
