How Does One Make Sense?

Seriously, psychologically speaking, what mental attributes and characteristics should be required to make sense?

Especially on these boards.

A follow up question, how does one who doesn’t make sense change their nonsense ways?

Even though intelligence is notoriouly difficult to measure, whether or not someone can communicate sensibly may be a good measure.

Of course, is it a measure of the speaker, or the listener?

Improve one’s philosophical vocabulary.

The only character atttibute for making sense is the unconditional attitude of Love for myself as sensible and nonsensical.

Example: I love myself as sensible and as nonsensical.
That attitude of mind means

that the first nonsensical attitude in my mind and in the mind of all others is to hate myself as nonsensical, and is to hate nonsense or nonsenical people.
Why?
Because since I want you to tell me the truth and you want me to tell you the truth, it is only by loving myself as nonsensical that I can accept your truthful or lying opinion that I am nonsensical. Ditto for you. And then I wd know that I am overreacting if I hate nonsense and that you are overreacting IF you hate nonsensical people yourself; but that if you do love nonsensical people, I wd know then you cd help me in making sense, and I wd ask you to help me do so.
In both cases, by loving me as nonsensical, I am able to accept your analysis of me as nonsensical, which automatically then validates me in your eyes as also being sensible since i agree with you! and of course means that you are also nonsensical since you agree with me!smile

That sensible atitide of self-love also means all of this:

that I love others, who are nonsensical to me, as myself.
that it takes one to know one.
that I can handle others who think that I am talking nonsense.
that I can help others who have the primary nonsenical attitude of hate for self as nonsensical.
that I can make sense out of nonsense, and make nonsense out of sense!
that I can see sense in all others things that people say.
that in my experience, the ONLY nonsensical thing people believe and express is their hatred for self and others as nonsensical.

That therefore the only way how does one who doesn’t make sense and who doesn’t make sense to us can change their nonsense ways and us ours is to change their and our attitude from Hate of self as nonsensical to Love of self as both sensible and nonsensical, and that is because the only really nonsensical idea is to hate nonsense.

One more example:

Greek is naturally nonsense to me who does not speak Greek, but at the same time makes natural sense to greeks. So both me and the greeks are ok: me who thinks greek is nonsense and they who know greek makes sense. The only nonsense idea is for me to hate what is nonsense to me and for greeks to hate me for thinking that they are talking nonsense. By hating what is nonsense to me I have TWO nonsenses in mind when there is the nonsense of greek in front of me: greek and my nonsenical idea of hating what is nonsense to me. And then even when I can make sense of englis, i still have that primary nonsense: the nonsensical idea of hating nonsense: floating around in my mind.

If i love being nonsensical, I will still love greek when it is nonsenscial to me, will still love the greeks who understand that nonsense, and so be able to realise that it is ONLY my lack of sense of greek that is the problem. And when i can make sense, i have 2 senses in mind: the sense of Love and the sense of whatever i make sense of.

Love is therefore the sense of senses: The SOS: in both the speaker and the listener.

Reason is an innate human characteristic.

logos?

What make’s sense depend’s entirely on how we assign meaning to our experience. It is nice when some form of rationality is used to construct linguistic meaning, because we can then at least discuss the ‘rational’ aspect of the construction. Still, there are times when what makes ‘sense’ to ourselves (or others) is irrational. (shrug)

As the old saw goes, “There’s just no accounting for the way other people see things.” Overall, we seem to respond to rational or logical constructs, but our actions? Well, they might not be quite as rational as our thinking…

The ability to put new information into the context of existing information.

Now each mind has it own information database. Still we share a large portion of the same data. We all have common sense. That is a basic universal database. If you can put new information into the context of common sense then it will make sense to everyone who shares that database.

Most articles in professional journals do the same thing. They try to put new information into the context of the more focused database of information in that specific field.

“How does my discovery fit in with everything else we know about this subject?” Then you research everything that is known in the field about your subject and show how your discovery fits together with all that is currently known about your subject. If your discovery conflicts with what we already know then you have to provide some hefty evidence that vigorously supports your new conclusions.

Mental attributes and characteristics are not enough to make sense. I can have all the clarity and consistency in my mind but if what I’m reading is unclear and complicated, I won’t be able to make sense at all. Clarity and consistency have to be in my mind and in the paper I try to analyze too.
