How people came to philosophy is always an interesting story, usually reveals a lot about who they are and where their perspectives lies within philosophy. So tell your tale! How did you come to the discipine, was it love at first sight or a work in progress? Was there anything that interested you immensly, or just general interest?
For me it was pretty simple. In high school I openly embraced atheism and out of that it seemed natural to me to investigate other atheists, which lead me to Sartre. I found a great love of existentialism in him, but actually found his defenses of atheism lacklustre. But this spurred my interest enough that I took an intro course at some point in my undergrad (where I was studying evolutionary biology). My interest was spurred my the study of modernist thinkers, but not in agreeance of them but in arguing against them (at that point ignorant of the general trends within postmodern thought). As I was also going through a crisis on unfaith (as it were) there was great reconcile awaiting in some of the more Christian-friendly philosophers (St. Augustine, Berekeley, Kierkegaard, Marcel). Between these two interests (and some underlying passions) I found philosophy to be much more akin to how I wanted to approach the world, thus I started my path down philosophical indoctrination . I have never regretted it and loved every minute of it. I seem to constantly find reasons reaffirming my love of it, from Frederic Jameson to Euthanasia.
