If Bush was stupid how did he became president?

See IMP has nothing really to charge democrats with
so he goes on some tangent. So what if byrd was in the
KKK, he admitted it in his autobiography and said it was wrong.
He didn’t hide anything. Byrd was in the KKK in the 1940’s
along with thousands of other white men. It was wrong
and he has said so. IMP by implication is trying to make
the democratic party guilty by association. One person
(60 years ago) join the KKK, admittedly a pretty evil
organization. He left later, admitted it, said it was wrong.
Now according to IMP, this taints the democratic party
forever and a day with being racist. It takes a tremendous
stretch of the imagination to make a leap of this sort.
If one person belongs to one bad organization, then
any party he belongs to afterward is tainted?
The defies all bounds of credibility and shouldn’t even
be taken seriously. If that is all you got IMP, pretty
weak, pretty dam weak.

Kropotkin

actual civil rights voting records in the us senate beat your lies and propaganda.

game over

-Imp

civil rights voting act was passed with a democratic
congress and a democratic president. If blacks
thought they were being treated so well by the
GOP, you would think they would vote for them,
and yet less then 10% blacks vote GOP, so
obviously those affected by racism have made
their voice heard, loud and clear. You don’t vote for
people who are prejudice against you. You vote for
those people who are aiding you, and that is quite
clearly the democratic party. Unless you think,
getting less then 10% of the black vote as a victory
for the GOP? So the very people being affected the most
by racism have spoken and they vote democratic.

Kropotkin

did you read the links?

robert KKK byrd the DEMOCRAT from wv was the racist bastard who was fillibustering the civil rights bill in the senate. his fillibuster AGAINST CIVIL RIGHTS was supported by the southern democRATS in the senate.

the party who worked against civil rights was the democRATS. that is the actual history. scream and cry and throw a fit, call republicans nazis and whatever else you want to call them. you will as you always do because that’s all you have. lies and namecalling is all you have.

-Imp

Just to get this straight, because a couple of democrats, spearheaded by a particular individual happened to work against a particular bill – the Democrats as the institution were against civil rights?

That is, it sounds like you’re implying that there weren’t case specific scenarios for the Republicans as well. Sure the democratic party may have worked against it for a particular instance, but saying that… sort of goes without saying, at least in my mind; and it’s certainly not an argument.

Maybe I’m a little off on my American history, but this seems like a biased view, even for you Imp. I mean… I guess what I’m asking is ‘what exactly are you saying here, if anything?’

I am saying the history of racism and civil rights is against the democRATS.

-Imp

Impenitent:
I am saying the history of racism and civil rights is against the democRATS.

K: quite clearly, as the article says, the GOP was a
minority. A democratic congress and a democratic
president, if the Democratic aren’t on board, the
bill wouldn’t even hit the floor of congress.
And of course you totally miss the simple
fact, it was over 40 years ago. The political
dynamics have changed quite dramatically since then.
You are still trying to convict the democrats of crimes
committed over 40 years ago by men who for the most part
are dead. Yes, byrd was KKK and that was over 60 years ago.

And earlier you mention colin powell as being black in the
GOP and what has happened to him? He was thrown under
the bus by the GOP and the radical right wing is trying
to throw condi under the bus right now. It isn’t safe to
be a moderate in the GOP. At one point in time, there were
literally two dozen moderate GOPers in the senate and hundreds
in the house. Nowadays the radical right is dragging the GOP party
over a cliff. Extremism is the name of the game in the GOP
party and that is a shame. But of course you, who are in favor
of death, revolution and destruction would know all about this.

Kropotkin

Let’s not a forget a little something called slavery.

Personally I would be more inclined to believe that perhaps, at best, it could be construed that the democrats were against particular bills passed by the Republicans pertaining to civil rights. To say that democrats as an institution were against civil rights where the Republicans were for it, is, like I said, a huge leap.

I don’t even know what the specifics of these bills are, so it’s hard to divorce true good intentions from political games. The blacks could go either way, and so were seen as votes, basically, and so were used in this end. Promises were made by both sides, obviously, but I would hasten to say that much of this rhetoric was more politically motivated towards warding off the opposition, then helping the blacks. Like I said, ‘hard to divorce’; I’m not implying there simply were no fair, honest, Republicans.

And in Heinsight, for the next hundred that would come.

As Pete said, nothing has changed much. The south is still segregated, if only now in a more subtle, refined way. The current Republican administration has done jack shit in the way of correcting this.

edit: I deleted half of a sentence that somehow got tacked onto the end of this post.

history and the facts PROVE my point. call republicans more names.

-Imp

I confuse nothing.

-Imp

You are quite clearly missing the point.
Those southern democrats are no longer
southern democrats, they are republicans now.
40 years ago it was convenient for some southern
democrats to go against civil rights, but now they no
longer belong to the democrat party.
(zell miller for example) Given the massive
changes in the U.S. about how the parties have
moved direction, what used to be very conservative
southern democrats is now even way more conservative
republicans. They left the party because
they felt the democrats were not anti-black enough,
and they have found a home in the GOP.
The demographics are quite clear about this which
includes the voting patterns. If you look at the voting
patterns of conservative whites in the south, they vote
GOP, not democratic. The solid south used to vote
democratic but no more and why, because the GOP
is the party of whites, for whites and a vote for
the GOP is a vote for white supremacy. Its as simple
as that. As I have no tolerance for bigatory and
prejudice, I shall continue to vote democratic.
You may continue on your way of promoting
bigatory and prejudice as is your constitutional right.
The voting patterns of conservatives white in the south
proves you don’t have an argument.

Kropotkin

Imp,

I do see what you’re saying from within a particular perspective…

Do you think if there were slaves today Bush would free them?

the argument was over when I educated you in senate history.

-Imp

yes, and he is currently freeing them in the middle east

-Imp

Imp saying that Bush is freeing slaves in the middle east is like saying I freed my shoes on my way to the bank.

:unamused:

That’s not even remotely close.

-Thirst

Good one.

Good emoticon use as well.

I’m trying to aim to be as relevant as you…
I’m just not at your level yet.
