If I had more time to spend here...

…I’d write a review of Werner Herzog’s ‘Rescue Dawn’ that points out how it’s a completely ironic bordering on sarcastic counterpart to his earlier documentary on the same subject ‘Little Dieter Needs to Fly’ - how the last hyper-patriotic scene is so brilliant and how some of the extra features on the dvd really make this clear. The theme is lack of vision in relation to American values, as opposed to the story of the real Dieter Dengler whose story is about expansive vision in relation to those same values. I really just thought the movie was horrible until I started to get the joke. In the extra features Herzog talks about laying on the ground beneath all the actors playing cheering air force sailors and getting trampled while he directs them. And the final line in the final extra feature - paraphrasing part of this because I don’t remember it exactly - “Sometimes when things aren’t simple and I don’t know what to do, I just ask myself ‘What would Dieter do?’”.

Of course if I wrote a long thought out review like that I might give up for lack of evidence and then I’d feel like I wasted a lot of time on nothing. #-o

So what kind of long and brilliant post would you all make if you had the time and inclination?

Oh, I was also thinking of writing a little thing about why I love Christmas eve, but I don’t enjoy Christmas day all that much. Kind of a true story about my inlaws that I spend most Christmas holidays with, and their good-hearted brand of Catholocism and my father in law who is a sincere Christian drinking his black russian and lightly making fun of the “bible beaters” next door and asking us if we go home and ‘meditate’ on all our new gifts… My wife’s mother is an amazing baker - very old fashioned but only in the best of ways. Great food, companionship, a real fire in the real fireplace. It’s like a dream…

Anyway, Merry Christmas everyone.

Sounds cool… especially the open fire

Hope you had a good’un too?

I did thank you. And you?

It was good thanks - I had a very relaxing Christmas break at my bro’s house: with his finace and my cute nephew. Boxing day was spent at my nephew’s grans house, and now I’m back at home and looking forward to some ILP action (I had no PC access over the last few days).
