Is the federal income tax valid? Some people claim that the 16th Amendment was not properly ratified because some of the states approved versions that had altered wording or punctuation from the version that Congress approved and sent to the states. Is this true? Would these alterations invalidate ratification and thus make the federal income tax illegal?
I think that might be one of the cases where the Court defers to the “spirit” of the legislation rather than the letter of it. Since they get to decide what’s legal I think in that case the answer would be no.
Do your research,. Look up their definitions of income and the citizenship. The U.S. Government is not the same as the U.S.A. Gov’t. Two different constitutions. Its all very tricky. We are stuck in the middle unless we read.
