I don’t think you have to, you could just say it.
But then you would be a ‘repeater’, and an actual quote from yourself is egotistical. I guess you could repeat yourself a few times and get away with it, or maybe change the wording…?

If you retype your statement from scratch then whatever, quoting or rewording is fine.

I think I’ve quoted myself once, and it was because what I needed to say was out of grammatical context with the rest of my paragraph, so it was just easier to say “Taken from some of my other writings: ‘…’”

I think it’s entirely proper, especially if you want credit for an idea. Like copyright. Who cares if it’s ego. Give credit where credit is due. And be prepared to have people take a crap on your genius.
