simple question are we stuck atm waiting for technology to catch up perhaps not for the first time in Physics history but the last time was Post newton. Should we just admit our reach exceeds our grasp?

Advances in science don’t happen continuously. Once in a way a genius or two comes along leading to a huge change in understanding things, followed by a lot of smart people filling the gaps and building on the jump.

In my opinion, the last big jump in physics was Quantum Mechanics. Currently it is this little gap filling and minor enhancements that are taking place. There is really no way to predict when a jump happens. May be we will have a revolutionary jump soon, may we won’t have another for a few hundred years.

What about the wheel or Galileo or Newton or General Relativity (GR) or Special Relativity (SR)?

The wheel is considered an invention. But they all preceded Quantum Mechanics, General Relativity was indeed a huge jump but preceded QM by 14 years. Can’t think of anything that revolutionsed the understanding since QM.

I was more talking about the dynamic shift in motion it achieved and hence the thought about engineering.

What if QM is wrong?

What do you mean by “stalling”? What is it you’d like physics to accomplish?

QM isn’t wrong. It is explanatory of the small scale world as far as it goes. Also, there is still much to be discovered and explained in the universe and its workings, and as far as I can tell, physics is on it.

Actually it isn’t I agree, but if it isn’t falsifiable it’s not even wrong.

Something that affects me personally not something that is just mathematical masturbation? Is that too much to ask from a science?

Affects you personally - are you referring to technology? Something that shakes up your beliefs? Something else entirely?

No just something that benefits mankind, pure maths doesn’t benefit anyone at the time it is dreamed up, well except the maths departments.

what in the world are you talking about.

I’m not so sure it’s our technology that needs to catch up. Perhaps it’s our humanity that needs to catch up.

omg hasn’t there been enough. and humanity has been using the technology. its fast enough for me. the human neocortex needs some fixing.

What do you propose? Surgery?

what do you propose-------
is there a problem---------

Huh?

anon

what is the problem----

turtle has a horrible case of memory loss. so horrible, in fact, that even if he’s reminded of something that happens (ie by reading something he said that he forgot), he still can’t remember

Why are you asking me? What is the problem with what? Physics? The neocortex? I don’t understand your question.
