John Taurek

Has anyone here read his paper, “Should the Numbers Count?” I just recently read it and would like to hear from those who have, or even those who have something to say on the matter. He basically argues that when the situation arises in which one must save one or five, the number of people saved doesn’t hold normative force, even all things being equal.

I wrote a paper on how numbers shouldn’t matter WAY before I read this paper, and even though that paper didn’t do so well, I feel I was on the right track. I still believe that, all things being equal, numbers don’t matter.

Insight either way, of course, is highly suggested.
