What is the point of change from being just matter to being a living thing?
Is it the act of reproduction that enables growth and therefore life?

Only something very simple can begin life. A breaking off of a piece of itself that can grow. One circle becomes two small circles then both grow back to the size of the original. Both being able to reproduce.

In principle there is still no difference between this and humans giving birth.

The decision of a simple life to reproduce, to move or grow a further part, in principle is no different then to human thought, it is just random decision to run a certain course or put into action a certain thought.

This is my philosophy of mind.

There is only there is only non-life. All matter is atoms,electrons, quarks, gluons, charms, until finally there is nothing there. Upon closer inspection of all matter it will disappear. What you call life is that thought energy. That energy that you call ''me". You are not a living thing either. You are nothing more then an experience that that human animal (the body you’re in ) is having.
There is no life here or on other planets.
