Indeed, films like this [think Koyaanisqatsi and Powaqqatsi] allow the viewer to insert his or her own “meaning”. And that can only be a reflection of whatever particular existential narrative – moral, political, aesthetic, “spiritual” – one has derived from the life that one has lived.
There are thus no objective truths here. You simply take out of it what you have first put into it: “I”.
