“What gives these people the right to kill us, if they wanted to?
Would be way more interesting if you actually expressed what you think of the image you’re posting / tweet you’re linking.
.
I think that the images and reels speak for themselves…
Why don’t you comment on what you think about them… now that would be interesting and novel, wouldn’t it.
.
…we could even start a dialogue about it… who knows…
You’re just spamming the forum with images and links. That’s honestly not great for starting conversations. Other posters have been warned prior for similar behaviour - this isn’t a link dump site or a meme dump site. You can use links, and you can use images, but your posts should not be just a link or just an image.
Removed. @MagsJ, see previous discussion on this.
In general, if you are posting an image or link or video, please explain in your own words their relevance to the conversation: “XYZ is happening and here is a video that shows it”; “@soandso, I saw this on twitter and I think it’s a good response to your claim that ABC”.
EDIT:
The next two posts were moved from the same thread after this message was initially posted.
Carleas and all. I apologize for leading you astray by posting videos without comment. I’m just trying to draw attention to the horror that is going on in Gaza and the West Bank. It’s the world’s problem. I post as much to assuage my own feelings of helplessness as for anybody else.
.
No Felix, it was just I that was chastised over doing so.
You can check them out here: Links and Images Posted without comment - #9 by Carleas as they were very pertinent to the thread.
@MagsJ, @Felix, I’ve unlocked this topic in case you have additional comments or concerns.
I recognize that I was underinclusive in splitting that thread and I apologize if it affects the weight of evidence for any points being discussed. Mags, your posts were singled out because you had three posts in a row at the end of the topic, that made it easier both administratively and as a matter of bright-line enforcement, but Felix is correct that they were in the tone of the thread.
I truly do not mean to prevent posting videos or images or links, they are an important part of discourse (particularly in the Current Events section). But I also don’t want it to be the norm that people post whatever they’re watching, it feels like spam and lowers the level of discourse, they are easy to do in bulk and have rapidly diminishing returns for the discussion.
And the more exceptions are made, the more it becomes difficult to fairly police the distinction. Adding a brief description provides a little context that ensures they’re useful for others, and adds a tiny bit of friction that will marginally discourage piling on image after video after link beyond what contributes to a conversation.
Thank you both.
Funny you should mention that.
If someone’s posting a link or an image, I also want to know why. Are you posting it because you believe it? Is it evidence for some claim? Are you posting it because it’s funny? Because you want to mock the content of the link?
Someone posting a tweet to mock it, and someone posting a tweet to agree with it, both make identical posts if they post like Magsj did, without any words about why they’re posting it. I can’t read minds, how am I supposed to know if you’re posting it to mock it or agree with it if you don’t write anything?
So magsj explicitly saying “I think Jews are doing such and such, and this guy has a good explanation of the situation and the evidence” goes a long way. Tell us what you think.
.
Perhaps you should have led with that, then?
With what specifically? What should I have said?
I actually think what I said was pretty clear: “Would be way more interesting if you actually expressed what you think of the image you’re posting / tweet you’re linking.” What do you feel I left out of that?
.
In that your concern/s should be about board rules, not your personal preferences.
What words should I have posted to that effect? I can’t imagine them, I need some help.
And the post you were referring to when you said “you should have led with that” didn’t say anything about board rules, so I’m extra confused now.
I would say that this post suggests a tone of posting etiquette…
…rather than this one.
.
I’ll remember this for next time… ; )
