Lyrics

Ok… maybe I’m a bad monkey for starting yet another one of these threads… but I’ve always looked for a list like this online… and I thought there is likely no better input for it than all you stellar minds out there.

So, this is the lyrics thread. Please don’t post an entire song… rather share with us a particular line or quote that you particularly liked, or hit home with you.

I’ll go first with an excerpt from the song ‘Passenger’ by the Deftones (with maynard)

Roll the window down
This cool night air is curious
Let the whole world look in
Who cares who sees anything?
I’m your passenger

Everything under the sun is in tune
But the sun is eclipsed by the moon.

-Pink Floyd, Eclipse

Don’t need your religion
Don’t watch that much TV
Just makin’ my livin’ baby
Well that’s enough for me

Guns n’ Roses, One In A Million

So how come this gatherin’ storm
Pours little on the truth?
Where the smokin’ gun’s a familiar
song let loose
With the bombed out cars
Come the falling stars
From a heaven we’ll never know
And the nameless names
On the misspelled graves grow tall
We’re still screamin’ at the Wailing Wall

-Screaming at the Wailing Wall, by Flogging Molly

I’m not saying you have to, but it would be soooooo… much more interesting if you explained why you like the lyrics (if you can). Its about interactivity, creativity, adding something… otherwise it might be easier to put a link to lyrics.com and be done with it.

Yeah we can go with a explanatory format… I just didn’t want like entire songs.

Roll the window down
This cool night air is curious
Let the whole world look in
Who cares who sees anything?
I’m your passenger

I like this passage because it manifests to me as a dissemination of personality to look at life for what it is. a car ride. Free will is found in the realization that you can drive the car where you want, but you cannot get out.

No matter where I roam
Every single soul is a poem
Written on the back of God’s hand

My house has just been broken into and my shiny sexy laptop has been stolen. ALL MY MUSIC (digital and CDs, a lifetime’s collection) is gone! All my photographs, my writing, everything! Just like that! So I’m sitting in the lounge in the midst of my ransacked home opening my mail trying very hard to breathe and contain my disdain for my flatmate who left his window open :astonished: , we live on the ground floor (and none of his stuff has been stolen, not even his ipod) and this CD that I ordered online has arrived and I put it in the stereo and I don’t hear any other song except this one. These three short lines! It’s depth astounds me, the verse is soothing to the wounds of my violated space and the depth of knowing that each of us regardless of what atrocious acts we commit against our fellow human beings holds a poem within our hearts. Leaving behind the loss and opening the space for something new I guess. All is good (at least it’s interesting) in my world.

You are able to handle the problems in your life quite well.
From now on you will probably keep back up copies of all of your work and music… and so should i. I didnt back up all of my stuff but alteast i backed up some!
Your still alive though, and that is a great gift to the people around you every day…

 That’s terrible LA. My heart goes out to you because it so horrible on many levels. The invaded space, the personal writings, the memories of bits and pieces you’ve stored on your machine and the f’ing unfairness…

Sure, you’re OK, physically, and the ‘stuff can all be replaced’ yadda yadda… but the emotional shock and pain is still a lot to go through.

Take care and let us know how you’re getting on.

LA… I went ballistic one time something similar happened to me and went from hoc shop to hoc shop. Two weeks later, there it was, in the back of a shop – I got it back, in tact.

If you really need to, go around the local hoc shops and tell them to contact you if it comes in. Also drop in from time to time to check. Its worth a try.
Take Care and Good Luck. You never know.

Thanks for your concern people but I think the Gods are smiling on me genuinely. I’m off to India in a couple of days, and sincerely who has time to be thinking about things (possessions) when one is in India? Actually my flatmate has promised to buy me a brand new laptop for when I get back from India. So all is well in my world and there are lessons - probably more for my housemate as he is the one who was careless with our space and energy. I guess he has to feel the consequences of his actions, if only to learn that there are always consequences and that awareness of one’s environement is key to creating the kind of lives we wish to live. But there are lessons for me…You know strength training. It is my understanding that life is all about how one handles what is presented, therein lies the key to gaining insight.

You’re stronger than I am right now…

If I lost my labtop - my baby. I’d be a fucking mess.

My heart goes out… have fun in india

I really like that song as well, but you do know its about having sex in a car, right? I like your interpretation though. Too much stuff involving Maynard is about sex.

rofl… is it really? frig…I suppose that makes alot more sense when I think about it though.

I sat there for a while trying to figure out the ‘who cares who sees anything’ part. Heh… oh maynard, what a character.

K, here’s another one. It may remind you of something… :stuck_out_tongue:

Deeper than the deepest Cousteau would ever go.
Higher than the heights of what we often think we know.
Blessed she who clearly sees the wood for the trees.
To obtain a ‘birds eye’ is to turn a blizzard to a breeze.

This is from the same song as my sig… it’s called ‘nice to know you’. I choose the other verse for redundancy issues.

I believe it to be about existence in general… the afterlife/prebirth is the pinnacle of information, it is to know everything… to become God, and in doing so the complexities of the chaotic nature of the universe all the sudden become oh so clear… so simple and calm. Likewise… the verse my sig deals with concerns being ‘in’ life, having perspective that seems oh so familiar in the back of your mind. These are your angels wings.

I like Gobbo’s interpretation better :frowning:

This is nice. Unfortunately, I don’t know the music that goes with it. Music, of course, adds the emotional layering that can make something good, exceptional.
I agree with what you said about perspective. I think ‘perspective’ (in the larger sense) is almost synonymous for ‘angle wings’.

Oh I certainly agree. Sometimes I’m full of too much information.

Down, down in an earlier round
And Sugar, we’re going down swinging
I’ll be your number one with a bullet
A loaded God complex, cock it and pull it
~ Fall Out Boy, Sugar We’re Going Down

I pick things up
I am a collector
And things, well things, they tend to accumulate
I have this net
It drags behind me
It picks up feelings
For me to feed upon
~ nine inch nails, The Collector

When I was just a little girl
I asked my mother
What will I be?
Will I be pretty?
Will I be rich?
Here’s what she said to me…

-Que Sera, Sera
performed by Doris Day

Whatever will be will be… the future’s not ours to see.

Interesting choice… I like it.

“Less concern about fitting into the world,
your world that is.
'cause it doesn’t really matter,
no it doesn’t really matter anymore,
none of this really matters anymore”

“There is no you there is only me.”
