Lyrics

Hello there, my old friend,
not so long ago it was 'till the end
We played outside in the pouring rain,
on our way up the road we started over again

You’re livin’ a dream, wo you on top
My mind is achin’, Lord it won’t stop
That’s how it happens, livin’ life by the drop

Up and down that road in our worn out shoes,
talkin’ ‘bout good things and signin’ the blues
You went your way, I stayed behind
We both knew it was just a matter of time

You’re livin’ a dream, wo you on top
My mind is achin’, Lord it won’t stop
That’s how it happens, livin’ life by the drop

No wasted time, we’re alive today
Churnin’ up the past, there’s no easier way
Time’s been between us, a means to an end
God it’s good to be here walkin’ together my friend

You’re livin’ a dream, wo you on top
My mind is achin’, Lord it won’t stop
That’s how it happens, livin’ life by the drop
That’s how it happens, livin’ life by the drop
That’s how it happens, livin’ life by the drop -D. Bramhall / B. Logan

“Acid Bath”

Running away from the light as it breaks
Finding refuge in the sick you create
Slave to the ecstasy
Forever bound, eternally
Savor the fury, the fury

I feel the claws rain down on my spine

Rolling around on sheets stained with sweat
Begging for one more taste of your breath
Kneel at the alter
Consume the Blessed Sacrament
Fueled by the acid bath the acid bath

Chorus
Expose me
Consume me
Rape me
Slave to the acid bath

Screaming the lines of an unversed soliloquy
Panicked and hungered
Bruised by your destiny
Seeping inside me the gift of immortality
Can you taste me?
Or will you break me?

I feel the claws rain down on my spine

You’re Jupiter from the waist down
You’re Jupiter from the waist down
You’re Jupiter from the waist down
Waste me

Their ridicule of modern culture makes me realise for the first time what it means to be “keeping it real”.

Rap is such a good medium for (in this case political) poetry.
Now let’s hear them rap Ode on a Grecian Urn.

By the way, what happened to:

lol

To be honest… I’m not sure.

I agree with what you said about BHG though. I think that song is friggin hilarious.

I posted leash because it’s been in my head all day. Eddie is such a great writer/singer.

doctors have come from distant cities
just to see me
stand over my bed
disbelieving what they’re seeing

they say I must be one of the wonders
of god’s own creation
and as far as they can see they can offer
no explanation

newspapers ask intimate questions
want confessions
they reach into my head
to steal the glory of my story

they say I must be one of the wonders
of god’s own creation
and as far as they can see they can offer
no explanation

o, I believe
fate smiled and destiny
laughed as she came to my cradle
know this child will be able
laughed as my body she lifted
know this child will be gifted
with love, with patience and with faith
she’ll make her way

people see me
I’m a challenge to your balance
I’m over your heads
how I confound you and astound you
to know I must be one of the wonders
of god’s own creation
and as far as you can see you can offer me
no explanation

o, I believe
fate smiled and destiny
laughed as she came to my cradle
know this child will be able
laughed as she came to my mother
know this child will not suffer
laughed as my body she lifted
know this child will be gifted
with love, with patience and with faith
she’ll make her way

WONDER – Natalie Merchant
Listen to it here: nataliemerchant.com/

A good response to an ethical nihilist, I think:

What’s it all about, Alfie?
Is it just for the moment we live?
What’s it all about when you sort it
out, Alfie?
Are we meant to take more than we give
or are we meant to be kind?

And if only fools are kind, Alfie,
then I guess it’s wise to be cruel.
And if life belongs only to the strong,
Alfie,
what will you lend on an old golden
rule?

As sure as I believe there’s a heaven
above, Alfie,
I know there’s something much more,
something even non-believers can
believe in.

I believe in love, Alfie.
Without true love we just exist, Alfie.
Until you find the love you’ve missed
you’re nothing, Alfie.

When you walk let your heart lead the
way
and you’ll find love any day, Alfie,
Alfie.

The worlds on fire its more then I can handle
Ill tap into the water try and bring my share
Try to bring more, more then I can handle
Bring it to the table
Bring what I am able

Hearts are worn in these dark ages
Youre not alone in these stories pages
The light has fallen amongst the living and the dying
And Ill try to hold it in
Yeah Ill try to hold it in

Chorus

I watch the heavens but I find no calling
Something I can do to change whats coming
Stay close to me while the skys falling
I dont wanna be left alone dont wanna be alone

Chorus

Hearts break hearts mend love still hurts
Visions clash planes crash still theres talk of
saving souls still colds closing in on us

We part the veil on our killer sun
Stray from the straight line on this short run
The more we take the less we become
The fortune of one man means less for some

Chorus

DAYTON, OHIO - 19 SOMETHING AND 5

Isn’t it great to exist at this point in time?
Where the produce is rotten but no one is forgotten
On strawberry Philadelphia Drive
Children in the sprinkler, junkies on the corner
The smell of fried foods and pure hot tar
Man, you needn’t travel far to feel completely alive
On strawberry Philadelphia Drive
On a hazy day in 19 something and 5

–Guided by Voices

It reminded me of something George Orwell wrote about when he thought he just might live after being shot through the neck in the Spanish Civil war, “The leaves of the silver poplars which, in places, fringed our trenches brushed against my face; I thought what a good thing it was to be alive in a world where silver poplars grow.”

Simple joys found and pointed out to us even of this very capricious, and unforgiving world.

A possible answer for the “what is the best life” thread –
the singer seems to think so: (this song always touches me)

I’m 15 for a moment
Caught in between 10 and 20
And I’m just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are

I’m 22 for a moment
She feels better than ever
And we’re on fire
Making our way back from Mars

15 there’s still time for you
Time to buy and time to lose
15, there’s never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live

I’m 33 for a moment
Still the man, but you see I’m a they
A kid on the way
A family on my mind

I’m 45 for a moment
The sea is high
And I’m heading into a crisis
Chasing the years of my life

15 there’s still time for you
Time to buy, Time to lose yourself
Within a morning star

15 I’m all right with you
15, there’s never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live

Half time goes by
Suddenly you’re wise
Another blink of an eye
67 is gone
The sun is getting high
We’re moving on…

I’m 99 for a moment
Dying for just another moment
And I’m just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are

15 there’s still time for you
22 I feel her too
33 you’re on your way
Every day’s a new day…

15 there’s still time for you
Time to buy and time to choose
Hey 15, there’s never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live

100 Years – Five for Fighting

“Spaceman”
-Babylon Zoo

I always liked this song when I was young for some reason. There was something about the lyrics I didn’t quite understand… a deeper meaning that felt disturbingly inappropriate to explore at the time.

As I would come to find out…this seems sickening and ironic in retrospect.

Daniel my brother you are older than me
Do you still feel the pain of the scars that won’t heal
Your eyes have died but you see more than I
Daniel you’re a star in the face of the sky

Daniel

Throw back a bottle of beer!

I love swing. Just reading it makes you smile a little bit doesn’t it?

Doesn’t it?

Ever dance swing?

Yeah,

they teach it as part of the gym curirculum (sp?) here in Canada.

I like this contrast…
