Let them vent on you and feel heard. Give them no basis in your thoughts, feelings, or behaviors for grounding their accusation in reality. That is the only way they will see that, at least in the case of you, they falsely generalized. Assuming you fit the description of what is triggering them.

The “trend” is one of diminishing State power.
The citizens revert to their primal impulses, when there’s no external control imposing discipline.
Like a pet, when the master dies, or is absent for a long time.
It will revert to its natural behaviour.
So, when memes wane, genes are pronounced.
Memes create the illusion of parity, by imposing strict rules of conduct…giving the impression that all are naturally so inclined.
In the context of Christianity, the god authority - fear and hope - is what imposes the behaviours one associates with piety and goodness…when, in fact, few Christian followers are really Christian, i.e., good and forgiving, and tolerant, and altruistic, by nature.
They don’t trust atheists, because they know that without this god authority, they would revert to their natural state, so, they assume, that atheists will do bad things, because they know they would if they had no fear of god in them.
The possibility that someone can be kind, and tolerant, and altruistic, without the fear of god, or any fear of an external threat, because it is innate, is something they cannot comprehend.
You see it in those degenerates who become amoralists because god has been debunked…as if moral behaviour vanishes without a moral authority; as if the behaviour cannot be innate, having evolved over time, becoming part of human nature - or the nature of any social species.
For them morals, are ethical laws…chiseled in stone, imposed by an authority, an institution…and cannot be an innate part of an individual - naturally selected because it offers an advantage.
For many of the Liberal/Marxists sort, the only thing preventing them from expressing their repressed degenerate impulses, is an external auhtority…and they rebel against it, denounce it, dismiss it, nullify it, to justify their warped impulses.
They know of no consequence, other than the ones imposed upon them by some external power - if not god, then the state…and if not the state, then? Nothing.
Some, intuitively feel their own self-deceit, and so insist that the consequences ought - on ethical grounds - be shared and equally disseminated within a collective.
As I’ve said…for nihilism to survive a world it attempts to nullify, it must contradict its own principles.
These self-described amoralists, insist that the collective is obligated to share in the consequences of their own amoral actions.
They want to act in contradiction to the collective welfare but want the collective to tolerate and share the consequences.
Why?

It’s the ‘right’ thing to do. It’s fair. It’s just.
But it isn’t rational, it’s emotional.
