Name me 1 famous woman philosopher, and what she taught?

Virginia Woolf, but she was just a hardcore feminist bulldog.

she is still great though, A Room Of Ones Own is an accomplishment and helped to spark to women’s right movement in GB.

being great in my opinion is being able to have a real, and productive (philosophically or otherwise) influence on the future.
immortality…

Dan, you do realise male nursing is very much a reality?

By women being like men, I meant the qualities that mostly men has, fierce, tough, strong, a pure attitude , and all of that staying humble still.
Not the gentials nor the sissy and nerd kinds of men, who are cowards nor unedcauted. Something like the golden mean.

Virginia woolf is a crazy woman. Like a politican who has a big head and yabs all the time, it is like a woman wanting to become a man, making her lovely side lost but his political side gained. I would not call her great.

Men I see when they major in nursing it is because of money and finicial problems, security I believe, because the employment for nursing is demanded.

I can only say one great woman St. Joan of Arc, or her like, if she wrote philosophies people would say it is great, guaranteed because of her life, this I mean by great.

I hate this thread.

Besides the fact that any women and most of those mentioned have these qualities I’d like to point out that they are not the prerequisits for ‘greatness’

But since you’ve defining greatness by yourself why even ask us what we think of the subject? It’s like asking ‘Who are your favorite Dan’s Favorite people?’

Like I said, you should take a look at feminist philosophy, which discusses all of this. Of course not all feminists are female, though I’ve never heard of a male ‘Women’s Studies’ lecturer…

Crazy, yes. Like a politician, no, not really. I think that you are in all likelihood projecting your own fears about your mother onto every woman that you see and concluding from your own fleeting impressions that there is this monolith, ‘woman’, that is identical in all it’s manifestations.

One could make this spurious association with any number of careers/training courses…

Why Joan of Arc? Because you fancied Milla Jovovich in the movie, perhaps?

Have you ever read The Wife of Bath, by Chaucer? The language is a little tough at first but good editions have a translation or at least a guide to the vocabulary. It’s a fantastic read, sad, funny, poignant, politically momentous. I recommend that you take a look at it…

I can only say you all are right, and I am unintelligent.
Therefore, there are no more reasons I can further argue about the topic of greatness nor about great women.

But those who would listen I can only say why only the few people be remembered by many, and those who never knew him nor live at his or her time, will remember him and love him. It remains always in their concious and contemplation. Why do I suspect there are no great women, nor great men who has high intelligence. Why are some famous figures who are unintelligent would be remember by those who are not and are intelligent.
My conclusion is what they do in their life time, and how will they use their life remains a question for fame and glory. Now just by being a particular thing but a universal thing. Those who argue and question me on this I can only say you are right, I am unintelligent.

I’ll just weigh in about a few things:

  1. Female philosophers: Philippa Foot, and my mum (who isn’t famous but deserves a mention since we’re on the topic)

  2. Male nursing: as a male paramedic who intends to get my RN I can assure you that it is not the ultimate insult, nor am I doing it for the money. And although many nurses are female, it is not a “woman’s” job

cheers,
