Can you think of any?
I’ve thought of a few.
Can you think of any?
I’ve thought of a few.
A Rational one.
… or is that much too radical?
Anything I think of are just tweaked versions of existing forms.
Tychocracy: rule by random chance.
The government is chosen at random from among the electors, in the manner of a lottery, and all decisions it makes have to be determined by the toss of a coin, roll of dice, or some similar method.
James & Kris, tell us more, Maia, did you think of that yourself?
I like the idea of just pretending the government doesn’t exist, except in as much as I need to acknowledge their existence in order to avoid interaction with them. If everyone did that, and then every time interactions with them were unavoidable, things went bad for the govt types, what would happen?
I think that’s essentially what “new” types of government are.
If the masses all stopped paying taxes, their government would dissolve. It could all end with a simple boycott. This is one reason why I am considering the idea that it is the masses’ fault they are so f-ed.
Yeah and all infastructure, social services, civil order get dissolved as well.
But not before the instigators get hard time to be sure, as an example to others.
Hey it wasn’t my plan to use tax money to bomb babies in another country while it also goes to paying the police and the doctors.
It wouldn’t be an easy transition, but it is one of the few things the masses could truly and easily do to make a shift in society.
Well, one I have often thought about for large countries is basically a republic but instead of voting for representatives , they would be drafted. Education in business, law , diplomacy, ethics and a final bout of tests given. Each starts at local levels for two years afterwards they move up or out depending upon performance. Total service, no more than 10 years. Salary starts at minimum wage and capped finally at 4 times minimum wage. A retirement would be education and a position in the private sector as an educator with a capped salary and benefits. Those that are booted out are on their own. Those that make decisions are proven unbiased exrepresentatives.
This is of course is a rough outline.
Thanks for sharing Kris.
Sounds a little bit more like a form of meritocracy than a republic.
Yes, but, you would still have city, county, state and federal govts. Putting evrryone on the same track would deny local needs. What works in one place will not work in another. There must be some autonomy in order to prevent blanket laws that do not work.
So for you, a republic is a divided government, with a federal, state, and municipal branches? That would make your government a meritocratic republic. Would there be any (representative) democracy in your government? Would it have a constitution, and if so, what would a few of its guiding principles be?
For me Republic means representatives not one vote for each person. Existing constitutions through out many countries have very good basics. I would actually commit scholars to comparing and creating a new one based upon what works. For me to create all laws or some in my head would be wrong. One person cannot create a viable govt. Flaws will occur, Bias will happen. I can propose an outline but, the details must be a cooperative.

agreed
but you can fix that if you really want
you give value and power to a currency and by extension the government that controls it
i got one better than not paying taxes, and it’s not illegal:
you can choose to not use money
I talked to my friend ken earlier today at the restaurant. I asked him if he thought the boycott thing would work or not. I told him that some of the people on the forum thought it wouldn’t work. He seemed to think it would work. I told him there would be some problems, but they would be temporary. He talked about how the politicians lie and also use the system for excessive money.
Government is all about relocating authority. If we each were our own authority, we would not need externalized, systemized authority. Authority comes with responsibility though, and people really don’t want that burden, so they shift it to someone else. I blame the citizen, at least in part. It was their move to shift authority away from themself. Con men would appear later to use the system, but it was already f-ed before it got there.
You ARE your own authority
Don’t let the existence of government fool you into thinking you aren’t
You are just not ignorant of likely, external, less-controllable consequences of your actions
