Niceness in Society

I was listening to Santa Claus songs and it hit me. I should write about who’s naughty or nice.

In society people are always so nice. As if there were a law making everyone have to be nice to each other or go to jail except, there isn’t one. Not in the United States anyway. So why are people so nice? Why do you think there are more wars going on with countries instead of people?

And so, can you be nice to the wrong people and not nice enough to the right people??

They actually do put mean people in jail. But some of ‘em (like Brian) just stay home & bark.

Niceness is that formality practiced in public that expresses superficial goodwill. And yet a good percent of nice people would be far less nice to x if they knew anything about em. An example of this pushed to the limits would be two guys chatting it up while waiting in line at the deli. One guy just got laid off, lost his house, and had a sibling shot. The other guy is a ruthless capitalist and advocate of gun rights. These two are actually diametrically opposed in far more serious ways than those ways in which they feel a superficial fraternity when they were chatting it up.

Besides that, niceness is a learned strategy for a) staying alive, b) getting others to cooperate with you to help you attain your ends, or c) expressing power through gift giving (wishing one well, saving them from a burning house, loaning them money) to someone approved of. It’s a totally selfish act. Altruism is fake af and doesn’t exist. At best, any group is a union of egos sustained only by their reciprocal use of each other. We are a kingdom of meanz.

disagree. i eat a low meat diet from genuine altruism. Genuine altruism is rare and isnt as common as it ought to be. Sometimes i eat meat, this is due to human weakness. My body needs meat + i am too stupid and poor to create lab grown meats of my own.

The English word, “nice” has an interesting etymology. It comes from Old French and once meant naive, foolish or ignorant.

I think like everything else, it depends on the individual. Some people just have a more pleasant demeanour, and being nice is more natural for them and keeps their life honest and simple.

Some people have no problem with confronting others, and are more combative, this might also be close to their natural tendencies and also keeps their life simple and straightforward.

Most people though, probably fit somewhere in between.

I have seen how being nice holds society together.

I feel like an alien coming from another planet spying on them. I have a tendency to fight and be mean to people. I look around and realize I am not from here. I obviously came from a mean planet and got dropped off on a nice one. Being nice is so no me. lol.

Seeing people being too nice to eachother makes me want to barf.

Don’t you think it’s kind of stupid?? To be nice at all?

I think it changes people’s behavior/way of thinking drastically. Like the highest form of population control. In making zombie slaves, #1 rule tell them to be nice and that it will “all be ok”.

That’s fine. If everybody was nice all the time, society would become some sort of Tellytubbies nightmare.

Conversely, if everybody is mean and aggressive all the time, then it’s also a nightmare, just a different one.

Perhaps it’s best when there’s a balance of sorts, a choice to make, and room for all sorts of personalities.

Nope. Mean is better to me.

I’ve been called the turd in the punch bowl. You could call it my personality, but I think that it’s just my cat-like, sarcastic intelligence.

You like nice, huh?

Niceness is how the night crawlers creep into your cerebrum establishing themselves as your new assistant, Igor.

Goodniiiight.

Happy Halloween.

Oops.

Wrong Holiday. :jack_o_lantern:

Some sweet essence unknown to mankindness.

I prefer to be real.

What do you mean?

Nowadays the word means nice = the opposite of rude. nice = kind. I can see the original meaning of the word in the medieval ages.
