Nietzsche; genius of the modern era bbc4 at 9 oclock tonight…

bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07h0hg9

I watched the first episode on Marx which was interesting, so maybe i’ll get to learn why people admire him [N] without having to read all his books [I only have 1].

He gave them the freedom from conscious and peer pressure to stick geometrically confounding objects up their asses and to sleep in on Sundays, using some of the lamest excuses available. All we got out of it was WW2. Thanks Nietzsche, you made the world a dumber place.

^^ Lol yes.

after watching, my first thoughts…

So the whole modern [western/capitalist] world philosophy is basically Nietzschean [why I don’t like him], but because he’s too truthful about the uncompassionate reality of our existence, we don’t admit that?

I don’t think Hitler was that far off, and our battle with WWII germany was based in compassion, when we [british] the great empire builders of the modern era were in actual fact little different.

It is one thing to not use a helicopter to reach the top of a mountain, but if you have that [or its use] it is surely a futile act to make the journey by foot.

Funny how the ‘game’ the world plays, is such that Nietzsche was met with the one demon none can overcome, that of madness and brain disease.

perhaps wisdom is in not attempting to play the world like a game - it wont like you if you do that.

If I could get a helicopter to take me to the top of a mountain, I would… but this would not prevent me from climbing it. It is two very different experiences. Of course, I was a Alaskan paratrooper, so I’m conditioned to aggressively promote both approaches. Technology doesn’t make the man, you should try to do without it, but also master and exploit it simultaneously, live at peace with it.

And no, I wouldn’t blame Nietzsche for Capitalism, that was already in existence long before him. In fairness, he stole just about all his ideas from predecessors, and was reacting to the Young Hegelians, which Marx and Max Stirner were members of. He was a tad bit late showing up, that is all. We wouldn’t of had WW2 had it not been for Nietzsche, but most of his ideas were already floating around.

I think Churchill didn’t want to be isolated… England is sorta anchored to Europe, though I suspect if you could paddle away like a ship you would. The good will was a necessity of not being surrounded, cut off. It just happened all that goodwill was sprinkled on the weak points of the British Empire’s supply lines.

Emphasis, mine.

Tf

So now you’re a Nietzschean? Is American philosophy largely that also?

I don’t think climbing a mountain would change me at all, that’s an illusion. Except that doing it would be something I wouldn’t normally do. oh wait.

Yes, Schopenhauer and the like…
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_World … esentation

not capitalism per-se, just the ideals and sayings it and society uses.

It was noticed that upon his diaries [shown in the documentary] was written a shopping list ~ over his notes on ‘will to might’ [which he never released].

…and I don’t think will-to-might is used the same as will-to-power, modern capitalists use terms like self-empowerment to loose the reference to ‘might’ imho [but mean the same thing and that isn’t so different from the nazis in all but appearances], but its still the same meaning. Capitalism has been around 4 hundred years or so [with the markets themselves since civilisation began], but today it has agendas and Nietzschean philosophies tied into it. We have to be winners and are responsible for that, which is idiotic of course.

England would paddle away from everyone if they could, and then complain about their isolation lol.

And yet it plays anyhow? Is it to you, just a coincidence that the world gave Nietzsche the one battle he couldn’t win. Isn’t that saying something about the whole scenario, like wisdom or something. A very harsh teacher perhaps, but that’s why one doesn’t want it, or at least being at the opposite side to the Nietzschean’s in power is an equally unpleasant thing [to his life/end].

_

Never heard about this shopping list.

I know his unfinished concepts of Will to Power only make sense when comparing them to Aristotle’s, the Stoics, and Neo-Platonic Categories, it is rather obvious he was trying to craft his own… which is a bit odd for someone who hated those who tried to create a syayemmatic world, but he never fixed the contradictions. Was very much still a dialogue with those earlier attempts. I’ve seen the Nietzscheans here get all excited, descending into imaginary perverted labyrinths interpreting his WTP, but in the end it is just a Categories. Had he lived longer something might of come of them, but as they stand now, they don’t surpass antiquity’s efforts, at best they operate as a commentary to them.

If your speaking of Ayn Rand… don’t get all twisted. She was spot on in her realistic interpretation of capitalism and self identification. Modern psychology has largely vindicated her, even if liberal philosophers fight tooth and nail to deny she even is a philosopher. She emphasizes the thinking of the right hemisphere, Marx the left. A lot of it parallels as far as assertions go, an idea would be taken as offbalanced and insane by society if they didn’t… we are a civilization that embraces all personality types, and no personality type possesses full lateralization, yet we all have our specializations. Any Rand harmonized the barbarity of the Marxists. They seem incompatible, but look at how the world readily adopts both. The places that do it the best, balance it the best, and prosperity grows. It is only natural there would be ideological discontempt by purists who by into biases of one side of a issue.

I know virtually nothing about her. I agree that balance is paramount, and that N didn’t believe in ‘total philosophies’. I got the impression there was never really a complete work especially in that sense, and his ideas changed with respect to the people he met, liked then disliked [e.g. Wagner]. I do get why he didn’t like the social elete’s, in that they were complacent ~ their lives didn’t have the grit he desired [and then got too much of].

I have tried to watch it but apparently we can’t get the
series in America. I guess I need to wait for it to either hit dvd
or Netflix or something like that.

You forgot that he brought large mustaches fashionably in vogue as well you hoser.

No he didn’t, that predate him too.

There is exploring causality and reality and then there is finding meaning in things that happened, finding/creating identity.

You know why the bad guys always lose in the end? It’s because the world doesn’t like bad guys.
You see, the world, over the long haul, is becoming a better place, this is how it works.
For example, this has nothing to do with reality, however it does create an identity and is part of a self-understanding of a people.
It’s actually quite ironic because it’s basically a version of social darwinism, only that not the strong guys win but the good guys.
Why not the strong? Because being strong is evil, unless you are Superman and use it to help the weak, checking your privilege and all that.
It’s ironic because it’s the same outlook as those social darwinists, ascribing a meaning and a goal to evolution and positioning themselves as the spearhead of destiny.
It’s also ironic because this is the projection which is placed on Nietzsche’s ‘over-man’, the projection of people who see the world as being for the good and themselves as being the good guys.
The bible writes - ‘And the good shall inherit the Earth.’ Or something similar.

You should have sex with a black woman Isy.

I’m calling you Isy from now on, as it is the first three letters of your name, and sounds like Sissy.

If you had sex with a black woman, you wouldn’t be such a spaz.

Uhh uhhh, Sissy.
hngh hngh, sex with black woman.
hhhh hhhhh, spastic.

A waterfall of shit from you and actually - these are only dumb insults. I’m talking about your ‘serious’ posts - shit all the time.

Colonel Ovenman,
I think you could expand your forum tactics to real life (if you haven’t yet).
First you need to smear all kinds of disgusting shit all over you. Yes, it’s going to smell terrible but I’m sure you will get used to it.
The rewards will be great… Wherever you go, people will make room for you. Nobody’s gonna argue against you, all they will have are their bigoted responses like ‘You are disgusting!’ or ‘What’s wrong with you, retard!’
And then, then you win.
All attention in the room will be on you and if somebody wants to kick you out, remind them of the equality of humans and that it’s a medical condition.

I can do one better than merely smearing myself with shit. Provide me with your picture, and I will walk around with it on in a hitler youth costume, with pink swatzika, slapping my chest like a retard and getting into fights with little dogs in the park, all over DC. In doing so, I can become the ultimate shitbag.

You can apply all the history you want to racism, and logic… your hardly the only with that skill set, some are better. Just be aware if you persist in sticking your neck out in trying to intellectualize a bumpkin philosophy of hate, you run the serious risk of having it hacked off by someone more seasoned and smarter. Just a friendly warning to beware of the fast shifting winds in the dialectic, it can wreck anyboat not long used to their nuances. This turd won’t ever sink.

Forget the picture and the Hitler uniform.
Be authentic and wear your own uniform while slapping your chest.
Forget the pretended sarcasm and embrace who you are.

But what am I saying, you are already doing it here, just now with your very post…

I’ll help you out and give you a chance. The way to beat me is to write really long posts filled with shit.
So long and so filled with shit that I won’t bother to read them. Then you win.

Having seen the first part of the Marx episode and thanks Amorphos for
the link. The program is quite weak on actual information about what
Marx’s believes in and more of a soap opera. I hope they do better
Nietzsche and Freud. I was not impressed with the show.

Our resident ILP Marxist everyone. He would definitely know.

K: confused as always… I have studied Marxism, however notice the name I have
chosen. My personal preference is something other than Marxism.
