Nihilism;
Latin for no, thing.
Not I’m not sure, but no thing.
For me, nihilism means, not lack of belief in something, that’s agnosticism, skepticism or intellectual apathy, but belief that something doesn’t exist.
So an atheist is a theist nihilist.
An ethical nihilist believes morals and values don’t exist, not that they’re relative or subjective, but that they don’t exist, that those who believe they or others have morals and values, are mistaken.
A metaphysical nihilist believes existence doesn’t have a metaphysical component.
A physical nihilist believes nothing exists, like Gorgias.
Gorgias was the first and most extreme nihilist in written history.
Myself I am not a nihilist.
Regarding God, I’m agnostic, tho occasionally I pray, for comfort.
Regarding ethics, I’m a subjectivist, ethics are ultimately a matter of preference, altho we may objectively disagree about the things we prefer, like I believe the thing I’m preferring is not a threat to our safety, whereas you might think it is.
As for the world, I believe in it, but it’s a leap of faith, I could be a brain in a vat.
This could be the matrix, or the holodeck.
I could be God or a spirit dreaming the or my world into existence.
On the other hand, I could be a dream someone or something else is having too.
The way I see it, everything is a happening, and what’s ultimately true is beyond our grasp.
So I don’t search for ultimate truth anymore, which is philosophy proper, but only for what appears to be, for a good guess, for what’s workable, which’s pragmatism.
The world is a happening, we’re already in it and compelled by our instincts, intuitions and cognition to think about it in certain ways, and that’s it.
