Philosophically...You Own 1/40 of This Red Dot

.

.

I think you’re math’s a bit off brother. You saw a ‘40’ and thought you could just throw it in a fraction willy nilly. Math doesn’t work that way.

US population is Approximately 314,000,000
40% of that is 125,600,000 (that’s a lot of people to fit into that red dot)
1/40 of that is 3,140,000 (but why 1/40, ?)
3,140,000 is, like, 10,000 x Pi!
That’s a lot of Pi, even for Americans

I’m assuming whoever read this was American.

I realize, gleefully, that not all who read this thread live in America.

I further rationalized that any member of ILovePhilosophy Forums who is reading this post is in the lowest 40% of the gross income earners in America.

Again, I realize that this is not necessarily true.

to make a simple, yet interesting, thread.

You also seem to be assuming that the United States has 100 people in it.

Anyway, land isn’t a very good analogy for money.

I see what you are saying…so a 1/40th share of 350,000,000.

…so… 1/8,750,000 ownership of the tiny red dot.

Wow…that is REALLY small.

It’s probably still way bigger than my apartment. So who cares?

My apartment is 606sq ft.

Warned.

You’re still not getting it. 1/40 is not a relevant fraction. At all.

Here’s what the math would look like:

Peter Pan started with total number of people in US, I’ll take his word for it, 314,000,000
40% of that is 125,600,000
You own 1/125,600,000 of that dot.

Think I got it now:

Then when you consider that America is about $17,000,000,000,000 in debt - that we recognize…um, that means, in my portion I’m about $55,000.00 to the red.

Now I realize why they used a red dot in the original image.
