My introduction hasn’t been approved, and I’m not going to try posting something else till it has been.

Ah… so just because you show up as ‘joined’ doesn’t mean that your account has been activated yet.
Yes… they are a bit slow in approving that first post, aren’t they.
The commune in Wales sounds good… you had spoke of it before… being with like-minds, can’t be a bad thing.

I’m very tempted to go and join them, though it would mean giving up my job. The commune is Pagan, with strong opinions about reliance on modern technology, and so on. I’m thinking of staying with them for a week or so first, before making any decisions.

@Maia …a recce, a good idea, to ensure if you and the commune (which are now called ‘intentional communities’) are a good fit.
9 to 5s are becoming a thing of the past, very quickly… think about whether you’ll miss your job and routine or not… if not, you’ll have your answer.
I think that humanity should go back to an old way of living, but minus the elimination of time-saving tech, of washing machines and such.

I have an ambivalent attitude to technology. I use it, but don’t like the idea of being dependent on it. If I know I could live without it, in particular, without electricity, then that’s ok. And I’m sure I could.
I reposted my intro at Philosophy Now, and it’s now up.

Awesome! See you over there…
There’s definitely such a thing as ‘too much tech’, but a washing machine is a necessity for me… though those hand-spun clothes-washing devices are making a comeback.
So it seems like pretty much everyone has moved to Philosophy Now. Even Harbal is there (assuming it’s the same guy.)
I also have recently joined.
Not sure how active I’ll be,
but it’s pretty hard to be less so than I am here.
I have the feeling that time on philosophy forums is more of a personal distraction to me,
a welcome distraction on a rough day, and if I’m looking to take my mind elsewhere.
So to those that have already joined,
I’ll probably run in to you there.
Yes, PN is, in my view, far, far superior to the experience actual philosophers among us will have “here and now” at ILP.
There is considerably less yak yak yak “chit-chit” there, fewer Kids, fewer pinheads.
It basically reminds me of what ILP was once like when I first joined.
Still, the caustic ad homs and the contempt for those who don’t think exactly like you do also florishes. The mods seem barely there at times. On the other hand, being a hardcore polemicist myself, “huffing and puffing” is admittedly something that I enjoy myself. And, sure, sometimes in particular “moods” I go too far. That’s always going to revolve around a subjective frame of mind though.
Note to Maia:
You’re up there. ![]()
Don’t know where the moderators are…
dattaswami has polluted the Forum at present, every second post and it is all rubbish.
He calls himself His Holiness Shri Datta Swami.
PN has really lifted it’s act, not
Maybe you lot can do it. ![]()
