Philosophy Now forum

I thought I’d give it a go, and joined yesterday, posting an introduction. But after nearly 24 hours it still hasn’t been approved by a moderator. Is this what it’s always like there?

I’ve also registered there. But my posts here are still being filtered anyway for some obscure reason.

K: it took them over a week to approve of me… apparently, they
are short staffed…

This is all very curious to me.

In our email exchange [if I am remembering it correctly], you noted that you had stopped posting at ILP and Know Thyself. Why? Well, as I recall, you explained that you were not a philosopher and that you construed philosophy itself as “soul-crushing”.

But now this.

On the other hand [to me], it reinforces my point about dasein. Something must have happened in your life of late to change your mind about philosophy forums. Or does this too revolve around a Spirit Self that takes you in different directions intuitively?

In any event, whatever prompted you to reverse course, now you are immersing yourself more deeply in philosophy. And, as a result of that, you might come upon a post [here or at PN] that does, in fact, nudge or compel you into a whole other way of thinking about “purpose and meaning” in your life.

As I just noted to gib…

This is how “I” think about my own value judgments. You never really know what is around that next corner. Something that may or may not “change everything”.

As for Philosophy Now’s posting policy, I’m not sure. You should contact a mod or the equivalent of Carleas – remember him? – here and ask about that.

I think you’re reading too much into it.

I tend to go through phases of posting a lot, and then not very much for ages.

I can only read into what you convey to me.

This: “…you noted that you had stopped posting at ILP and Know Thyself. Why? Well, as I recall, you explained that you were not a philosopher and that you construed philosophy itself as ‘soul-crushing’.”

But, again, whatever the reason, I’m always enthusiastic about you being here. And hopefully at Philosophy Now.

To be precise, I described philosophy as soul-crushingly tedious rather than just soul-crushing. Anything that isn’t I’ll engage with it more fully.

As for Philosophy Now, they still haven’t approved my post after four days. If this goes on much longer I’ll delete it and not bother going back.

Have you DM’d one of the moderators there?

The place is well-worth the wait… lots of Brits and good conversation.

I’ll give one of the Mods a poke.

Thanks.

I figured that if they haven’t been there to approve my post, they wouldn’t be picking up any messages, either.

I’ll give one a nudge.
It’s worth the wait. It tends to be somewhat better there than here.

@Sculptor… awesome!

Thanks.

Any idea how many posts have to be approved, before I can post freely? I seem to remember, way back in the mists of time, that ILP required five posts.

ILP still requires 5 post approval… to keep the porn spammers et al, at bay. Lolololol

Re: Moderator approval on every post?

Hiya. No, that isn’t necessary. Only the first posting by a new member of the forum has to be approved by one of the moderators. This is a necessary measure to keep out spam postings.

However, you can’t make any postings until that first posting has been approved

So hang in there, Chicca ; )

I’m sure I’ve made more than five posts on this forum but not all of them have been approved.

Okay, I’m just glad you’re still around.

And, yes, Philosophy Now is [more or less] worth the wait. It really does remind me of what ILP once was itself when I first joined.

Sadly, in regard to discussions that revolve around religion and spirituality, ILP is now populated more and more by those who barely scratch the surface. Spiritually, theologically, philosophically or otherwise. Gone are those like felix and Bob, who really put a lot of thought into their posts. Those who reminded us that, if nothing else, a spiritual sense of reality revolves first and foremost around the astonishing mystery of existence itself. In other words, the manner in which those like Albert Einstein approached it: boggled by it all.

Your name’s not on the list, so you didn’t get in… I can but only speculate why… or are you pattern-chaser?

Thursday August the 25th 08.11… your join date.

Ignore my below post…

I have an idea who Pattern-chaser may well be, though.

Can you describe the pic, please?

…it’s a screenshot of the list of the most recent members…

Apparently you’re approved… can you now post?
