Podcaster Charlie Kirk assassinated in broad daylight

Yeah, not a fan of Anqueefa. They were all over Portland when I was there and I watched the riots too, the protestors shoot fireworks at cops and leave that part out but then when getting shot with tear gas and rubber bullets they cry wolf and act like victims.

This is false.

I’d say that’s reductive. It’s true he talks about god a lot, but thinking of his ideology as “Christian” is more likely to mislead than to clarify. He takes a bunch of internet incel culture and dresses it up in Christianity; it’s more like a cargo cult.

The biggest tell is that he’s rabidly misogynist, and not in sense that flaming hippies like me often criticize Christianity for misogyny. It’s not ‘traditional families’ or whatever, he advocates indiscriminate violence against women, asexuality, and says liking women is gay (not for nothing, he also accidentally streamed himself watching gay porn).

I have my bones to pick with Christianity about its treatment of women, but Fuentes’ ideology is different in kind.

Similarly, I don’t think Fuentes is comparable to Osteen. I don’t know Osteen as well, but his strikes me as a milquetoast, lowest-common-denominator Christianity – he seems to intentionally avoid having any ideology at all. Where Fuentes wraps something distinctly un-Christian in Christian rhetoric, Osteen’s shtick is just the rhetoric.

I was in Portland during the Floyd protests (rioting) on a business trip at the time, they burned out the entire downtown of the city and were looting store fronts. They destroyed the entire downtown portion of the city in terms of property destruction.

I would argue incel culture is just another manifestation of the broken economic financial capitalist system we have. In a healthier society more young men would be economically prosperous having young wives for themselves in having families of their own. I am also a critic of western feminism as well, might as well be renamed bourgeois feminism at this point.

With the Osteen comments I am merely pointing out the much larger conservative republican Christian worldview which is very wrapped up into American capitalism culturally.

There are rumors he (Fuentes) had a sexual relationship with Destiny of all people. :joy:

Yep, it was ridiculous. The city went downhill fast and I’m sure it’s still shit up there even now too, it was the last time I was there at least.

@Artimas

I have made it my personal mission concerning the west coast to never visit Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Tacoma, and Seattle ever again. They are the worst kind of crime ridden shit holes of cities that one can imagine. I won’t even travel a hundred miles within their vicinity, just drive around them instead.

Republicans are saying they’re going to wage war on democrats everywhere, neoconservatives are saying they’re going to wage war on neoliberals everywhere, and Donald Trump is talking about bringing back McCarthyism. And I as a Marxist who has lived his entire life in this nation find myself surrounded by these assholes where I don’t like any of them. Good times here.

Everybody here says they value free speech, that is until they try to start silencing their enemies or opposition, democrats and republicans, it doesn’t matter either way, they both act in the same exact manner. They say that they value free speech but the reality is they really don’t.

“wage war” has lost its meaning if folks are actually using those words…

If people use that sort of aggressive language I am going to assume that’s exactly what they mean. But on a serious matter, it would seem hostility is increasing in this nation overall between people.

A good outcome of this would be a conversation about what ‘free speech’ really means. My read is that people who say they value free speech actually mean it, they just mean different things by ‘free speech’.

To caricature the extremes:

  • The Charlie Kirks of the world think free speech means that they can never face any negative consequences for anything they say – and here I don’t mean that they think they shouldn’t be assassinated, they think e.g. girls shouldn’t refuse to date them for their vocal misogyny.
  • The censorious left takes the opposite approach: you can say anything you want, and as long as we aren’t murdering you or imprisoning you for it, you have free speech.

The other disconnect is that everyone has things you aren’t allowed to say, and they’re different things – though, in the case of certain expressions of sexuality or sexual identity, closely related.

Like everyone, I’m in favor of free speech, but it’s a genuinely difficult line-drawing question.

“wage war” has lost its meaning”

Yo, that’s so crazy. The phrase ‘wage war’ has more meaning and depth and relevance and history than anything ever written in a religious book.

Remember, as a general rule, if itchy said it, it’s most likely wrong.

But this one is a little dangerous. It’s translates to: come be sick with me and pretend you’ll be rewarded for your wage slavery by being allowed into heaven.

I like to tune my ears to the people saying that it is a choice to let that happen or to do something else.

And when the wife of a murdered man says things like her tears are a battle cry… (against a 22-year-old…) I like to keep it in perspective that she & her kids just lost her husband… who did not select a weakling for a mate… but she is obviously struggling.

She’s not going to be waging actual war. She doesn’t have the nukes.

The only thing that would justify an actual war is self-defense against actual organized aggressor that can do actual damage beyond an isolated shooting.

The “grassy knoll” had one shot heard ‘round the world (a bit of hyperbole). But there were whole armies already assembled.

You could say that people learned how to use reasons because they didn’t have the muscles or the vocal cords to win an argument. On the other hand, you could say that people learned how to use muscles or vocal cords because they didn’t have the reasons to win an argument.

And then there are the gaslighters who have or use neither brawn …nor brains. At least…they haven’t found them, or how to use them, or why… yet.

I am a free speech absolutist, as long as you’re not threatening physical violence against others, people should talk about whatever they want.

I am all for political debate on virtually any subject, public debate is the hallmark of western civilization.

I seen the video of his wife, tragic stuff and I understand her pain.

But, I am not talking about his wife, more like I am talking about the general mental atmosphere of republicans and neoconservatives right now. The mental atmosphere is retaliatory.

Can you quote them and what specifically they are talking about when they say “wage war”? Because I mean…they don’t have the nukes. Are they just gonna throw rocks/bullets/knives/arrows in such a way that a nuke would have to mutually assure mass destruction? Nobody wants that. Unless they do???
