Yes by what we think of as morality and laws we judge ourseves to be held accountable. But, what if we were not actually held accountable due to our infancy or the fact we may be an experiment.
But technology has just started in the relative time lines as has our physical presence how is it possible that our immaturity is in a decay before it blooms?
Yes I agree. I see that technology is slowly changing over to such. Here lies a question though: If you are given parts to assemble a society or world, Would it not be expected to utilize all parts? Final assembly often looks vastly different then while in construction.
If this is such would there not be a set of instructions lying around? I think in history there are instructions why are they not being used? (Damn I can’t resist this one Sorry.) Is it the male thing? or dominant ego?) (sorry ) But, serious though ;why then is history not addressed for instructions?
No I agree we should use history as in the instructions. If we look back at all these industrial accidents/disasters we see it is because we are not using technology in the right way. For example if you build a huge dam instead of a bunch of small, networked dams and you see the huge enviromental impacts that will result. (besides the effect of the resevoir simply swallowing up a bunch of land, the biowaste that is decomposed releases tons of methane into the atmosphere).
Technology is just our mentality, all we’re going here is moving particles around when you really come to think about it. What we need to do is learn to do this in an efficient and cooperative mannor. We spend the first parts of our ‘lives’ as humans figuring out how the world works. We spend the next section of years figuring out how we interact with the world. Now, with the information we have we need to learn to interact efficiently with the world.
Only then should we even be thinking about space travel… cause we can only imagine what is out there. We need a strong base much the way children develop (or should) strong rational bases early in school.
well how do you think great ideas come about ? So feel free to expand. Sometimes ideas can interlock at the strangest times and places. Philosophy is used to being quite gruesome if you haven’t noticed. And Scifi delves deeply into possiblities and probablities.
I agree but, we both know that is not happening, infact shouldn’t we look for an acceptable course on this path. To use tools as reference; The job calls for a phillips screwdriver but you don’t have one. Obviously you must still get the job done somehow, so you figure out a way to get around it or use something else. You know the phillip has been missing before and so you remember or innovate if you can’t remember or think you are innovating, chances are it was resolved the same way. So hopefully it was the right way.
so don’t you think that perchance a resolution in the positive can be found even on this path?
From the biophilosophical perspective I voted “masters”. Here’s why:
We are an integration of body, mind and spirit in reaction to the void.
Our bodies are an integration of physical capacity, knowledge and activity.
Our minds are an integration of mental capacity, knowledge and activity.
We seem designed to reach out to the limits of our capacities, to others and to God for the penultimate purpose of self-realization but with the option of self-destruction.
It is our choice, thus we are the “masters” of our destiny.
The part of your post that is interesting is; you say, we are designed and yet we are masters. How is this resolved in your mind, that one can be designed by someone or something and yet be a master? I realize that there are forms of being masters and then there is the basic master which controls all, is there more then one form of master that you refer or just the one all control master?
Is that the only part you found interesting? My reference to “masters” here was meant only to convey the point it seems we have absolute freedom of choice.
Genetically speaking your parents designed you and were masters of your destiny for a period of time. There is no doubt in my mind that is no longer the case. At this moment you can choose life or death. I hope your parents are still with you and if they are, they cannot prevent you from making your choice. Similarly, if there is a master designer, that designer cannot prevent us, either individually or collectively, from making our choice of self-destruction or self-realization. (I feel we are choosing the former.)
I am sorry, I should have said it differently, your post was thought provoking .
I just meant to me that statement is at odds , but then life is.
See , Masters of our own destiny plus being designed. If you go to the trouble of designing something it 99% of the time is for a purpose not for fun. Now if you are the master of your destiny then what is your design? You were designed to do what? The designer would of course not be able to control all action and thought but, would have to have some control. So if we give the designer some controls, even if it is tiny ones are we still the masters?
Kriswest, you did not need to apologize. That’s the only trouble with this electronic medium. I used a pouty to express feigned disappointment but you didn’t see the smiley in my eyes. I joined this group because I was looking for philosopically inclined individuals to critique the ideas I have presented in my poem. I figured if I joined in the discussions I might get lucky and say something provoking enough to motivate some to take a look. I am really pleased you responded. Thank you.
I used the word “masters” as an entry into your post and it is taking me off course. I don’t begin with the concept of a master and work my way down. I begin at the bottom with all the good sensations and feelings like those Bessey probably feels when she is playing the piano. They are all the feelings we associate with reaching out to the limits of our capacities. I then ask are these feelings by design so that we reach out to the limits of our capacities. I continue looking at all the conflict, the “golf ball” mothers and other self-destructive shit that’s happening and ask if it is due to our choosing to ignore what might be a design.
Finally I see a choice. We can choose to remain on what I see is a self-destructive course and discover nothing or we can choose move toward self-realization and perhaps discover a design. Getting hung up on whether there is a master designer “poking us” once in a while is just delaying our choice.
self destruction leads to self realization or can lead to selfdestruction period.
If we don’t percieve or think about the potential master designer/s is that not a way of delaying self realization. Kind of like never seeing that brick wall that one keeps pounding. Or maybe this; to move foreward we must know as close to certaintity as possible, how we began. To self realize we must know who we are. Knowing who we are and what we are made of is essential to growth.
How we got here can lead to very important questions as to the direction we as a species should eventually steer towards , right now we are floundering in a whirlpool as a species. The more we ask, the more we learn and the more we share the more the species evolves and the slower the whirlpool becomes. Our beginning is an important piece of our puzzle that we must solve as a species not just individuals. No way is everyone going to see the same perspective of the beginning. But knowing, not just having faith, is important to evolution
Perhaps that is why we get stuck on such questions or perhaps not, this is just one of many facets that I see.
No means this is not the way I see it, not no you are wrong. OK?
No. Self-destruction leads to self-destruction and self-realization leads to self-realization. There is no doubt that while in a downward spiral of self-destruction we can come to the realization this is not right and reverse our direction but if we are heading toward self-destruction that’s where we will end up.
yes
No. Self-realization is finding out who we are.Yes we must ‘know’ that is the plan.
Yes. And I would add “of self-destruction” after whirlpool and remove “eventually”.
That depends on what we ask, learn and share. We can ask how to make a better gun.
If we solve it as individuals, we solve it as a species.
No. If we don’t soon begin to see our common purpose. We are doomed
Yes. I would just change “evolution” to “self-realization”.
