Question

 If i do not write as you do and vice versa, is there a perfect way to write? I recognize words and writers styles over verbs nouns and dangling participles. I write to be understood. Ever one has their opinion of how to write correctly according to their education and experience. But what is gained by dissecting every word and sentence to be grammar perfect? If i the reader can be understood by the writer hasn’t the writer accomplished his goal…to be understood and not judged or criticized?

What is gained by perfecting ones writing if the reader is slow to understand? pljamesone@att.net

How is the reader to be understood by the writer? How does this further the writer’s goal to be understood?

Do you mean literally ‘what’s wrong with bad grammar’? There are a few obviious mistakes in your OP, I don’t know whether that was ironic or not. Anyway, there can’t be too many devations of formal language otherwise it would be too ambiguous and hard to learn. But learning correct grammar/syntax/spelling/anything else to do with language means people are more likely to respect your views than somebody who has not even bothered to learn the basics. It’s just the way it is I guess.

Oh the irony!

*Deviations. Oh the irony!

Checking for typos seems a no brainer to me. Only there’s a problem if you check and don’t find them.

How is the reader to be understood by the writer? How does this further the writer’s goal to be understood?

If the writer knows his audience then the reader should understand the writers intention. Paul

Whats a op? I am somewhat slow on learning and understanding others. I am not perfect on understanding. I try to do the best i can to learn from others like you and other members. Shall I be labeled below average are below par to try to communicate with the member of this forum because I have a learning disability? pljames

I agree. That’s the writer being understood by the reader, not the reader being understood by the writer.

Grammar makes a difference in how well a writer’s meaning is understood by readers in general when it’s set in a message.

Not necessarily - if you can get your philosophy across well you’ll be safe.

Oh, and OP is ‘original post’ - so in regards to yur original question.

Since there is no perfect language and language is for communication then those who write are responsible to make themselves understood. So it’s not the language it’s the writer and he/she will make the error because they to (are not perfect? :-k pljames
