quote

Saw this quote somewhere online… kind of liked it… what do you think?

The true and divine intellectualism of the brillant mind emanates from an ability of a mind not to use its powers to attain even a morsel or grain of self righteousness— but to use its powers to, in essence, become a well-oiled machine devoutly dutiful and purposeful in the progression of self and the progression of humanity.

I like this better:
The true and divine intellectualism of the brillant mind emanates from an ability of a mind not to use its powers to attain even a morsel or grain of self righteousness— but to use those abilities to uplift their fellow man in order that they become productive, loving beings.

" Man’s liberty resides solely in this: that he follow natural laws because he himself recognizes them not because they are put upon him by any extrinsic force, whether human or divine."

   -Mikhail Bakunin-

‘One should have a straight back and a supple mind.’ - Michel Foucault

“saw this quote somewhere” lmao

Yeah, I’m sure you didn’t write it.

why do you say that?

Okay, I fess up, I wrote the quote… actually I did this because I wanted a completely unbiased opinion of my quote… which I wrote based on watching a movie.
anyhow, I actually came up with a slightly different version and would like some honest opinions??

Ok, I like this better. It follows a little more closely to my redux to your original post

thanks I actually slightly edited it again… I think this is better now?

What does the progression of humanity mean? What is progression? What is humanity?

my unbiased opinion of your statement is as follows…

to make such an assertion assumes A. that man kind is self justified. B. life is worth living.

i do not mean to be offensive but the only way i would come to this conclusion is if i was an atheist deluded with objective meaning.

what you say really is that it is up to us to do our best for the betterment of mankind…

my first reaction is laugh, then i realize you simply have not explored this area of philosophy thoroughly.

the idea that mankind is great and should be our greatest purpose is the road less traveled by philosophers…

I would say that progression is so entirely relative that there can be no objective purpose behind it.

Next I would say that “humanity” is an ideal created by absolutists who forget that the actual ideal itself doesn’t exist beyond its fleeting illusion and that only individual people exist where they live not under some great categorization but instead live for themselves existentially.
