Rationalists vs. Empricists

Yesterday night i went to see the play “7 Stories” by Morris Panych, and although it was really funny, it had many metaphysical and epistomological cues that were interesting. As i was thinking about knowledge i was curious to see how you guys feel about it at ILP. Are you a priori or a posteriori? Personally i am a priori and a Platonic rationalist but i was just wondering where everyone else stands

How I feel:
2CS, 20th century sensationalists:
Graphic simulation of killing people, monsters and demons. Occult, dismissed by science, then watered down and fed to children of all ages. Almost no sexual morals left at all. Attachment to the TV [and all of the propaganda that comes with it]. These are just a few of the factors that influence the ‘2CS’.

Are these people evil? Innocent? Better then ever? Are they 'sinners'? Are they free from the evil clutches of 'religion'? What are they? The 2CS are human beings. They are just as human as anybody else. What they consume and take into their minds is: More 'stimulating' then 'boring' things. The 2CS, though partially numb to violence, still know that 'real' violence is 'wrong', and they are not [always] 'violent', but their minds are still altered to a degree. The 2CS are all around me, and though they rarely ever 'hurt' me, on the surface, their 'life style' looks 'fun'.

This subject is very complex, and I am not in a position to quickly make a wide judgment. If there were no porno consumers, there would be no porno producers either. If there were no drug consumers, there would be no drugs on the streets either. The people chose to feed the beast, and the beast chose to feed the people. I don't like it, I don't consume it, and therefor I am not part of the problem. I have done my part in full, simply by now wanting.

What I would suggest: Seek peace. Ponder the beauties of nature. Keep close to your friends. Practice the art of conversation... and perhaps... pray for “God's” will?

One of my friends thought that it was ‘best’ to try drugs first, then say no to them later once you know what they are like. I did not agree at all. First hand experiance is not as good as education. It is the desporate craving for stimulation and feelings that urges these ones to put their bodies through extremes. They have little balance, and worship their own lust. They are everywere!

Phenomenologist with a sub-classification of Consequentialist/Alternativist

The sub-classification works to keep both Rationalism and Empiricism in mind while weighing the consequences of the belief in each if one or the other is wrong in the practical and pragmatic applications to living. In a sense it is a preparatory measure, or contingency plan, in light of agnosticism.

Both camps are always considered, but I don’t put my money on either/or, if that makes sense.

Instrumentalist here…

wahoo rationalists in the lead  :sunglasses:

Gobboist

Siatdist…

Make of that what you will…

Father, husband and retard here. Not sure what classification that falls under. Choose wisely in your ignorance as you may have to match wits with an unarmed, narcoleptic assailant one day.

I’m voting against rationalism but that doesn’t mean its a vote for empiricism.

lol a lot of "ist"s going around, now it seems that empiricists on the lead though :frowning:

I personally am a dualist, I agree that knowledge is acquired by sensation received by the senses, but there is also knowledge that is acquired through rational thinking. As an Algebra and Geometry teacher, it would be contradictory to be an empiricist, and not a rationalist ignore Euclid’s five postulates.

I’m a rempiricist, that is, when not acting erationally.

Relating to drugs, it's not. Describing the effects of cocaine in health class does nothing to keep you off of it compared with watching a fifty year old man sniff dirty carpet to get the coke he spilled.

I'm voting against both. Either is too narrow a definition.
