Reality and the exploitation of the senses.

Hi all,

After lurking over some essays on Baudrillard and his concept on Simulation of real. I’ve discovered great interest over this subject over the last years, and it’s great to discover a place where people exchange thoughts on such interesting ideas.

After reading some essays, I came to the conclusion that everybody accepts the fact that post-modern society lives with constant simulacras. We understand them, and accept the fact they have great weight over our lives.
And because we repect that some people are not aware of this fact, I found myself thinking on what leads most of us, to enjoy the illusion.

I belive we live in a world that exploits our senses. Before all knowledge (experience) that every individual may possess, he is exposed to recieve information that is interpreted by its brain. If the information raises a good feeling, then we are receptive to more information of that type.
I like to call it, stimulation.

Stimulation arives in all sort of channels (senses), when we eat candies, when we see a blue sky, when we watch a movie, when we listen music, when we have sex.

Is it safe to say that stimulation exist has the very basic purpose of self preservation? For example, we only eat food that we like, when we have a cold we are unable to taste food. Then you can only rely on your stomach to give the signal of unger. If you where unable to recieve a signal from your stomach when would you eat? What would you eat?

Another example is sex. Would reproduction occur without orgasm? In other words, would we have need to reproduction without stimulation?

My assumption is that all living beings are motivated by stimulation. So if a simulacra stimulates, your body have just exchanged a probably bored reality by a 1 second pleasure. Wait a minute… isnt that also happening with cigaretes? And drugs?
Ho-oh… I’m starting to remind a very popular distopy… “Brave New world” by Huxley. Where ‘SOMA’ was given to ‘proles’ (aka, we).

The problem behind the blindness of the modern society is the complete dependence on stimulation. And in the same way hackers exploit the weakness of a software, mankind exploit pleasure. Its doesn’t really matter who wins, it doesnt matter if it is a powerful enterprise or goverment.

In the end we accept the fact that Plato was right with the Allegory of the Cave (almost 2000 years old), has much we accept the fact that the diference between the genetic code of a chimpaze and ours, is minimal.

BTW, a new reality is emerging, MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game). But I will let this matter to another post, before I end killed by everybody

Thanks for your time reading  comments will be welcome.

PS - Please forgive my terrible english :]

Your english is fine.

Yes, stimulation is exploited, why?
Because of how pleasurable it is to exploit others.

and… pleasure/pain exist because of our needs and our natural motivators.

Need leads to desire, which leads to “suffering”, “action”, “progress”.

Civilization has been building gods out of its own fecies for thousands of years now, and I doubt any true change. Lol.
