RECALL VOTE

Greetings fellow ILP Members,

Due to complaints that have been publicly made against my Moderation and capacity to act as a Moderator here at ILP, I am instituting an unprecedented recall vote against myself.

This is a public vote open to all Members of ILP meeting certain criteria to avoid, “Vote-stacking,” against me or for me by puppets. I respectfully apologize to anyone who is not a puppet yet fails to meet the vote-casting criteria, it is not my intention to isolate you from voting, but merely to protect the integrity of the vote from anyone who would wish to compromise it.

If I lose, I have promised never to post on ILP again in addition to being terminated as Moderator.

I cannot make any statement pertaining to who my replacement would be. Thus, I am not running against anyone, per se, I have no authority to assign Moderators.

For the purposes of this vote, a, “Yes,” is a vote to have me recalled and terminated, and a, “No,” is a vote to have me remain as a Moderator.

If you vote, “Yes,” I will treat you no differently than I do now, from a Moderation standpoint or otherwise.

The vote shall be concluded in one week, on September 17th, 2012 at 18:15 EST.

Thank you for your kind attention.

Criteria:

1.) Must have 100 posts as of this 18:21 p.m. EST, September 10th, 2012.

2.) Votes must be made in the form of a post.

3.) Matching posts from any Users that come from the same IP address are excluded, to the extent that only one vote will be counted.

4.) Must have made at least one post between 18:21p.m. EST, September 3rd, 2012 and 18:21p.m. EST, September 10th, 2012.

5.) Members who are presently banned that will not be unbanned by that date are excluded from voting.

6.) Every vote must be in the form of a post in a thread that I will create.

I vote you stay, and cheerfully ignore the whiners!

I have taken a zero-tolerance approach to whiners now (as I’ve faced the brunt of it recently) so this thread should not even exist… leave? where the hell do you think you’re going Pav?

Given the nature of the whining, it seems appropriate that American imperialist military forces of world domination be somehow involved in the resolution of this crisis.

I don’t mean to sound arrogant, so I apologize if it comes off that way, but I seriously doubt if I am going anywhere after this vote. In any event, even if I do lose, there are other things to do on the Internet. I’ll also continue to log-in and read posts in threads that interest me, I just said I would never post again, keep in touch with people via PM, things of that nature.

not sure if even that would work

…shoulda put a wink at the end.

but really… where do you think you are going?

Is this the thread where I vote?

This would be thread in which to vote.

No

Then as a celebrated and highly esteemed poster of this site, I vote No. Also I vote no as captaincrunk, the jackass. So that’s two votes “no” from me.

no. do not recall yourself.

i just saw all this. what the hell are you talking about man? if i were you i would have cruelly oppressed my opposition a long time ago.

If you leave, I’ll send the Newcastle Nudies to mud wrestle in your hotel lobby! Recall vote :astonished: Pfft!

Fuck, pav. Don’t leave. I’d feel obligated to come back to staff. Stay, for my sake.

Oh poop, I’m unfranchised… Well, yer just gonna have to guess what my vote would have been, then, Pav…

Some people on this forum simply want you to go away so that they can get on with bringing every single thread down to the level of personal insults and name calling: a level which they can engage with easily. They do not want to spend their precious time on this forum considering arguments or developing their thoughts. Moderation necessarily involves antagonizing such people. It is a necessary part of your role, that you will become unpopular with certain posters. It’s a hit you have to take for the good of the forum. So far, you’ve been doing this pretty well. Magsj does it ok too, although too often she gets dragged down trying to defend herself. I understand this, but if I were you two, I wouldn’t be so defensive.

Still, I respect that here you are trying to give yourself something of a democratically-based mandate to keep doing what you are doing. For that purpose, I vote ‘no’, as I think most people here would. For reference, if Magsj was to do the same thing, I would vote ‘no’ for her too.

Personally, I think hanging’s too good for the likes of you.

I can’t think of any moderator, present or past, who wasn’t aware of the biased, subjective nature of the job at hand. The complainers have problems with moderators per se, so I wouldn’t take it personally. And I wouldn’t count the votes of fellow moderators, as it will only lead to more nonsense. Which makes it only 7-0 in favour of you staying, not counting crunk’s second vote or Oughtist’s allusions.

I think we can learn a lesson from this - it is clear that the boards are made up of sheeple who unquestioningly accept the status quo.

Oh I’m done with the defending BM… I now have a zero tolerance policy for all that, as the abusive replies I got were many and also rather unnecessary, but no more honey [-X

Some constantly violate the forum rules, and then have the gaul to question a moderator’s actions…

@OH: very well put.

This thread is particularly amusing to me.

  1. My criticisms of Pav and other mods have nothing to do with popular opinion. I am well aware that I’m in a minority, but it is precisely because of what I see as utterly biased moderation of that minority that I am so vocal and harsh-toned in my criticism. Imagine if you will that there’s a town where 5% of people are of a different race to the rest. That 5% feel harassed by the police, keep being told they’ve done something wrong by people who don’t even understand the laws that define right and wrong, have been temporarily banished from the town at various occasions. They complain. The police go to the town and say ‘do you think we’re doing anything wrong?’ The 95% of the rest of the town, who do not suffer from the bias, perceive there to be nothing wrong so a few of them vote and say there is nothing wrong.

QUESTION: Does the vote prove anything about whether there is something wrong with the police?

  1. Pav is only doing this because he feels under threat. He cannot answer me intellectually, because I am smarter than him and he knows it. He cannot answer me with any claim to personal or moral integrity, because that simply isn’t a factor in his moderation. So what can he do? He can make out that he’s being unfairly targeted and appeal to the mob for sympathy. A few cluckers and cooers will turn up and say ‘awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, poor Pav, nasty SIATD’ which will make him feel better. As a crowd control mechanism it is quite effective, so I give Pav credit for that. However, the very fact of feeling he has to defer to popular opinion as a means of shoring up his own authority, while suppressing dissent, is very telling about his personal strength, self-confidence in what he’s doing, and about the political dynamics of the forum and the role the mods are actually playing.

  2. The number of ad homs in this thread is already the highest (proportionally) of any thread on the forum. There are two key points to take from this - a) that the ad homs won’t even be recognised as such, let alone will the people who posted them be disciplined. This is a prime example of the exact sort of bias to which I am objecting. b) That the number of ad homs in this thread was already the highest of any thread BEFORE I posted on it. Ergo, all you cooers and cluckers should be looking in the mirror right now and seeing a big flashing neon sign saying ‘hypocrite’ hanging over your heads.

  3. The nature of the rules imposed on this ‘democratic’ vote means that most of the dissenters who would have voted no are not allowed to vote. You wouldn’t put up with this from some tinpot third world dictator, and yet when Pav does it you cheer. Says it all, really.

Having taken all this into account, my vote is no, Pav you shouldn’t leave because of a vote. You shouldn’t leave at all, you should just quit as a moderator and go back to being a poster. But you shouldn’t do that because of a vote, you should do that because it’s the right thing to do. Alternatively, feel free to continue as a moderator, because if there’s one thing an anarchist enjoys, it is an authority that is so incompetent that demonstrating its illegitimacy is a walk in the park…

The difference is those people have no where to go. There are other forums. Fuck off Make your choice.

There are other towns. There is the countryside. There are even (though I’m very aware of how Americans struggle with this concept) other countries.
