Reincarnation and Eternalism

Right, but on this note (correct me if I’m off James), I’m fairly certain I understand where James is coming from (basing on previous conversations).
Eternal is a phrase rooted in a concept long ago which basically can be summarized as: that which is beyond conception

In most ancient languages, for example, it arrives as a term borrowed from words for vision referring to ‘beyond the horizon’ (or similar concepts).
In this regards, ‘eternal’, is quite tangible, and here the ‘sunrise’ (the event) is an apt analogy.

The principle hiccup in the terminological use was when it crossed into sophistry from metaphysical quandary.
Here it ran into (loosely) the ‘ideal’ and ‘actual’ concept of the sophists; of which also had equal ‘planes’.
The ideal, then, became considered with the idea of ‘eternal’, and as such escaped the temporal state of ‘beyond perception’ (which rooted the concept to temporal measure previously).

From here, it became captured mathematically as philosophers and mathematicians wrestled with the idea of infinity while attempting to achieve the finite definition of the ‘Naturalist’ description of the universe.

This disembodied variation of ‘eternal’ is our culture’s current grasping of the term, but James has not typically used our current cultural standard of the term in the past, so I doubt this is the version being supplied here (especially considering his examples in here).

Personally, in the past (and if this is his meaning here, then here as well), on this matter I agree with James as the current cultural standard of ‘eternal’ is arbitrary and the result of extrapolation from derivation.
This single modern ‘lens’ is responsible for a host of conceptual translation issues in many textual renderings of multitudes of ancient culture’s texts by modern minds.

Considering the topic at hand has ancient footing, I’m prone to wager that James is not offering a modern post-Naturalist extrapolated rendering of the phrase and (from what I can tell) is why he has been offering the analogies to explain the tangible meaning of the term in intuitive grasp of the human mind (as most ancient early ‘theological’ philosophies did) if we remove imaginary states (such as the sophist dichotic planes of ‘ideal’ and ‘actual’, and mathematical extrapolation from mathematical derivative fallout).
