"Russian doll" framed narrative

Upon reading Ian McEwan’s Atonement I realised I was reading Ian McEwan. The author as the literary character we could label as God, creating the fictional world, invisible but implicit and creating a historical account of himself. I also came to the conclusion that you are reading me and I have similar powers to shape history as you know it, for example, I did not realise this while reading Atonement but Arabian Nights.

Upon reading Borges’ “I, Borges” I realised I was reading Borges. The author was a literary character that was subject to the whims of my interpretation, and indeed, the author-the character is a puppet to whatever my current perspective is (the author-the man no longer exists). I also came to the conclusion that you have similar powers to change me, for example… what?
