Hi - to you wonderful philosophers (thinkers & drinkers!)…
May I introduce myself? My name is Johannes K. Drinda. “I used to be German for 30 long years”. Finally I to turn myself (in) “global”!
I inherited a musical talent of whistling to music (see: prservice.com/drinda) >> Now, with 61 years young and still unable to cast off these beautiful ancestral pre-dispositions, I finally learnt put up with it. Furthermore, I made a life-style and a living out of it! Secret: I have got seven books in hiding! (Title: “A Guide To Personal Contentment”) Before I settled onto any philosophy, I had to come to terms with the ultimate aim. Of course it had to do with quality of life and nothing less… but what and how? I wasn’t happy with the notion of “happiness”. To me it sounded to short termed (like finding a 100 $ note in the gutter). I longed for something lasting a lifetime (unlike a prison sentence). I longed for innermost fulfillment. - Pious philosophies and all philosophical books at the local library were just too impractical and so, I came to realize that I had to invent my very own brand of philosophical guidance. Finally, after much pondering I managed to work out that “contentment” is the term I’m longing for. Initially, I used to scribble my thoughts onto pieces of butcher’s paper (for economical reasons) and red them to friends. It always provided food for thought. During my performances in public places, I sold “philosophical consultations for $2 for 15 minutes” with great success, for my audible talent provided the initial evidence and proof for “personal, philosophical development”. (“Never buy a hair-growing lotion from a bald salesman!”) I then began to write down my philosophical guidance in books, but before that I still had to learn English. That explains my present “German-English” style. Thus far, I failed to market my books the professional way. I’m simply lacking that capitalist greed! Albeit I fame myself to be an emotional millionaire and a materialistic pauper, I love to share my personal, philosophical success with you… and especially you.
So, this is my self-intro and now I aim to contribute in some form or another to this philo-forum. I don’t really intent to copy the contents of my books, merely to share a few thoughts about quality of life in a pragmatic way. I trust my contributions will be of benefit to you all and in turn I too, hope to learn something from you. jjj
Jeezus christ, do you actually believe that junk coming from your mouth or are you just another con man looking to make a quick buck? I hope we don’t start getting tele sales calls “Buy the philosophical path to contentment and we’ll throw in enlightenment for free!”.
PunkNietzsche.
Nietzsche pointed out that sometimes a defect could make an individual stronger in another part of his life. He goes on to give the example that a person who is unable to hunt in a primitive society due to an ailment (i forget the specific disease, but it will not detract from the general idea) may have more time for thought and thus become an important member of the tribe.
“Nietzsche pointed out that sometimes a defect could make an individual stronger in another part of his life.”
But isn’t it characteristic of Nietzsche himself? I’ve heard that he desperately wanted to be in the military service, but wasn’t accepted there because of the weak health. Thus he became a famous philosopher, and wrote all this stuff about Will to Power and Superhumans.
It comes at no surprise that we all meet here… Don’t we all aspire to quality of life? The only difference is that each of us inherited diverse mental, emotional, physical needs (genetic default values), unique abilities and talents. That’s why we can/should help (not exploit) each other to realize quality of life. We philosophical thinkers are the only ones able to bring about a new wave of cultural awareness. I wonder what those huge philosophical academies are doing? How do they benefit society! Similar to pious (business-) organizations they too are merely bastions of academic pride of meaningless significance.
Incidentaly, did you notice that too many academics are only good at learning and reciting knowledge of other creative people? The hardest to them is to create (originate) knowledge. This explains why they fail to accomplish quality of life. jjj
Somov. Nietzsche served in the Franco-Prussian war, but had to leave after falling off a horse and contracting dysentery. He generally liked military life and thought that everyone should have some kind of early schooling, whether it be military, college, etc.
jjj. I think one has to differentiate between scholars and thinkers, i’m not sure which type i am myself. scholars collect information, and disseminate it but thinkers are the originators. Philosophy has to be lived, words are such poor symbols for the love and nobility that many of us feel in our heart.
Yes, I couldn’t agree more with your statements. We should not mind to re-invent the wheel! It doesn’t make us lesser originators. At least it proves that our creativity and reasoning is intact and we don’t suffer from Alzheimer disease… Words are merely the medium to describe our findings of philosophical insight. People, who focus merely onto grammar, have little else to say… The same goes with critics. I don’t mind (love) constructive criticism. Sadly, most criticism arises out of envy and negativity. These poor souls dwell in destructive reasoning… Best is to ignore their attacks or asking them if they have something constructive to add. The very fact that they waste their time on longwinded statements discloses the degree of importance and logically correctness of our philosophical insight to them. In other words, I always count their negative contribution as an approval. jjj
Look jjj, you want to watch it, you’ve waltzed in here, babbled a load of utter rubbish, turned round and said you’ve talked to professors and psychologists who apparantly virtually hero worship you, pushed your book into virtually every thread you’ve started so far and then when someone does point out that your work is ignorant rambling you post this:
You didn’t even have the balls to post it in the other thread! Do you think I don’t read them all?
You have admitted yourself you’ve never read a single other philosopher. Do you have any concept at how complex and detailed a subject it is? Obviously not! It’s not about sitting there and saying “everyone would be happy if you follow the ethics of logic”. Do you know how meaningless that statement is? No, I shouldn’t have asked because you don’t.
You’re insights are so basic it makes me cringe, I really wouldn’t care or even bother commentating but you pretend you’re someone special, you’re not, maybe you’re great at whistling, but you’re awful at philosophy, you really have no idea at all what you are talking about. I’m sorry, but this post really pissed me off.
It may come to you as a great surprise that I left the kinder-garden/play-school very much earlier than you. I hope this open-minded statement indicates to you that I had many more years time than you to experience and process life. Bear in mind that I did my philosophical homework and did not just watch butterflies… I don’t know about you, but I came to this forum to broaden my treasure chest, by analyzing and processing the contributions of forum members. I’m saddened to tell you that thus, far there’s little or nothing at all I could learn from you; except perhaps…of how not to do it. Thank you for that. It goes to show that inherited, negative pre-dispositions, such as aggro, insults and violence aren’t getting us anywhere in life. I’m afraid, you are going to learn your lessons the hard way. Rest in Peace jjj
PS. Could you please post something constructive for a change?
I don’t really know if jjj’s work is utterly basic, because I haven’t really read much actual philosophy. I haven’t been in the forum long, but you have come on and saturated the forums. I respect confidence, but sometimes you could lay it on too thick.
Just pretending you are being the mature one doesn’t work, you’ve already shown that you can’t face criticism by being unable to face criticism in another thread.
I have never before met such ignorance presented as wisdom on this board. Your condescending know-it-all manner, mixed with bouts of self idolation can’t disguise your utter lack of understanding of the concepts you use in your posts.
So far we’ve had:
lets round up all the animals and make sure they don’t kill each other (can you get any more niave?)
Everyone should buy your books and follow your philosophy cause it’s great. (this has been the one that really gets my goat) For a start the way many people use “my philosophy is…” is utterly meaningless, that’s not philosophy, it’s the way they approach life. It’s a twisting of the word philosophy. Why on earth do you think that just because something worked for you it will work for everyone else?
Women are evolutionary inferior to us.
You can divine a moral code from pure logic.
They are just the ones that spring to mind! I don’t need to grow up, you need to take a look around the site, read the other threads, see that we actually take our philosophy quite seriously here, we discuss these things with thought and logical reasoning. Occasionally it gets a bit heated (mainly in the politics thread), but only occasionally.
So far you’ve shown up and just flooded the site with what seems little more than propoganda to try and get people to buy your book. Now you’ve insulted two regular posters. Use a bit of sense, think before you type. And you have the gall to say that you’re offering us “wisdom”.
