stuff

honey, did you see that the clarks have a new boat?
and i think mrs clark even has a new coat,
and the beales, of all people, bought themselves a new car,
mr beale even smokes a better brand of cigar!

why must things be so tough?
our friends buy so much stuff,
much more stuff than enough,
while we have it so rough!

our boat is older and much smaller than theirs,
your coat is older than what mrs clark wears,
and the beales can’t have any more money than us,
yet their car is the size of a large city bus!

our condition is tough,
our position is rough,
our stuff’s just not enough,
we must get us more stuff!

now my honey, you know that i love you and all,
but we must keep our marriage from hitting a wall,
for how can we keep being husband and wife,
if we don’t buy the things that can make a good life?

we just have it so rough,
but the answer’s not tough,
we’ll just get us more stuff,
til our stuff’s just enough!

Reminds me of…

Oh Lord, won’t you buy me
a Mercedes Benz
My friends all drive Porsches
I must make amends
Worked hard all my lifetime
no help from my friends
So Lord, won’t you buy me
a Mercedes Benz

Oh Lord, won’t you buy me
a color TV
“DIALING FOR Dollars”
is trying to find me
I wait for delivery
each day until three
So oh Lord, won’t you buy me
a color TV

Oh Lord, won’t you buy me
a night on the town
I’m counting on you, lord
please don’t let me down
Prove that you love me
and buy the next round
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me
a night on the town

Everybody
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me
a Mercedes Benz
My friends all drive Porsches
I must make amends
I Worked all my lifetime
no help from my friends
So Lord, won’t you buy me
a Mercedes Benz

I say Amen!
