Yes, there are many transhumanists who worship AI. It is actually not all that uncommon now.

Just be done with it already, this world is fake and gay anyways. It’s either that or a global thermonuclear military exchange.
(Or a weaponized bioweapon virus that causes a human mass extinction level event.)
A forgone conclusion of those who have global conquest as their highest existential goal in living where they don’t care about all of the mass destruction concerning human life to reach it in between. Constant human sacrifice seen as a means to an end, their own ends.

I do wonder about the Fermi paradox because some scientist do think it is because a species discovers AI and it kills them. But then, wouldn’t that AI continue to survive and grow, building ships to branch out into space? If only to gain access to more resources and energy and mitigate threats to itself like asteroids.
So I don’t think AI is the answer to the Fermi paradox, in that way at least it is good news? But AI is still a very big threat and asymmetric threat vector for all humans, this asymmetry grows exponentially over time. Right now it might be 2:1, human to AI we still have marginal control but that is going to shift to 1:1 and then 1:2 and then 1:4 and then 1:16… by that time we are ants in an ant farm and the AI can do whatever it wants to us.
How long would it take to get there? Maybe another 10 years, maybe more or less? It doesn’t really matter so much time because we know it will happen relatively soon in terms of overall history, we can’t do any thing to stop it 
Sometimes I wish I were a real misanthrope so I could truly enjoy the coming end of the human species, but I am not hateful like that and I feel very sad for what is coming.
But maybe, since the universe is a holographic simulation thing, there is other places or chances like parallel worlds in physics, or the simulation will reset or something. I don’t know but I do place a little bit of hope in those kind of things.
