John C. Calhoun spent his life making rat utopias, but all the utopias were failures. He could not figure out why. The reason all his utopias were failures, was because rats are highly motivated by status, and the utopia removed status hierarchies from society.

The missing ingredient in utopia is Beauty. Rats are unable to perceive or appreciate Beauty. Rats have very poor vision and eyesight. Additionally, rats have no problem living in filth and living in their own fecal deposits. Unlike other mammals, rats have no concept of what a “toilet” is. Other mammals know to poop and pee outside of their dens and living abodes, rats do not.
