I would say no to the wisdom thing. It is a transition to a different medium. Porn is still as popular as it ever was. The same fate for nudity has also fallen on newspapers. People now get their news from the internet for free, just like porn. Playboy will be out of circulation, in my opinion, very soon, or at best, reach a lower plateau with which they are happy.
Nudity was never the problem with pornography. Go to any art museum and you will find nudity in paintings, in photos and sculptures. It can be seen to have artistic value, and in fact that was one of the merits of playboy as a publication over other more raunchy titles like Penthouse. Celebrities trusted that their nudity would be treated tastefully. Today Sports Illustrated does this better than Playboy with their body-painted celebrities.
A recent article in Time magazine spoke about internet porn as an addiction. I think that too much shit is treated as addiction instead of understanding the search for something that is missing, a redirection of forces into an activity. Again I look at the medium and how the internet has changed human relations creating “enhancements” that are actually a net loss. I look at the lives of those that denounce internet porn and they are usually married, employed, family men. Sure there are those that in spite all of this still pursue porn, but unless they are dysfunctional (pursuing porn to their detriment) I don’t consider that an addiction. Further, even if I grant these cases, they are not enough to explain the popularity of internet porn and thus I don’t consider internet porn a veritable addiction.
But is porn wise? I don’t know. I think that everyone lives their lives by their own lights of what is best. My question has always been about the actors in porn and the consequences of that career choice in their life which I believe to be far from “normal”.
Or I might be protesting idiotic rules since there aren’t many children here and they can find more porn than I can imagine. Hell, I was doing the same when I was 15, making adult-aged profiles on AOL.
It’s sad when everything is removed, leaving little to the imagination.
Classical nudity was at times not only totally disclosive, but even erotically so. But representation
of movement changed the stillness, and the quietness of that sort of approbation. Movement in modern art became revolutionary in painting with ‘The Lady Descending the Stairs’. With that work, everything changed. Still, it was as of yet, only an allusion to me event.
Total optical simulated movement revealed not only the topical symbolic allusion , but the mechanics, deprived of any illusion, illusion necessary for the sustenance substantial erotic signification, while satisfying the compromising defenses , in absence of which laid bare the substantial non-optical mechanics of the imagination. Absent these, most energy, in the Reichan sense shifted to the periphery, disassociating major markers of endearment.
Porn is at one tremendously satisfactory as a compensatory mechanism to emotive lay unfavorable genetic characteristics, while at the same time, undermining it’s diffusive, furthest reaching connections of the non-visual kind. It has invaded style , while enhancing classically-aesthetic, literal modeling.
It is a pseudo-progressive/regressive mode of apprehension. It is strictly beyond evaluation, beyond good and evil, beyond love/hate.
It denies Sado-masochism , while politically and correctly supporting it within ‘reason’ It is what it is.
I’ll say it again, pornography largely exists for a large majority of socially alienated, isolated, and disenfranchised men that have been forced out of the reproduction pool.
Ever notice how readily available pornography is all over the internet for free? Nobody is making a profit on it hardly when it exists everywhere for free.
I wouldn’t be surprised if governments secretly fund pornography sites all over the internet to keep the large majority of the world’s disenfranchised men satiated.
