The purpose of philosophy

I propose that the purpose of philosophy, and specifically the purpose of discussions on fora such as these, is to promote open discourse and proliferation of varying points of view on questions that are truly decidable only on an individual basis. The purpose is not to establish a “correct” answer, but simply to, shall we say, plant seeds in the fertile fields of the minds who come together here.
