The real cause of Obesity

I went on a diet and gained 10 lbs.

All I drink is diet soda. I rarely eat desserts. I often skip meals.

Many of these “I went on a diet and lost 40 lbs” people are probably scammers. There are a lot of fake reviews online, in every industry. The Internet is full of shills and bots.

All going on a diet does is slow down your metabolism. Your appetite decreases which decreases your metabolism and increases depression, making you gain more weight not lose weight.

I noticed that after I went on a diet, I have less tolerance for the cold, because my body doesn’t produce as much heat, which burns calories.

If some of these “I went on a diet and lost 40 lbs” people are telling the truth, then its because they are positive and motivated. These positive, happy and motivated people are high energy and lose weight because of their attitude.

The real cause of Obesity is depression and car-centric infrastructure.

America has the most obesity in the world, why? America has the most car-centric infrastructure in the world. It is really simple, its not complicated. Car-centric infrastructure causes obesity.

Car-centrism sucks the life out of every city and cause them to go into debt. Car-centric infrastructure causes the city to look more and more ugly and polluted and stroads. This causes depression which causes obesity. Because of all the pollution and dangerous car-centric roads, people don’t want to exercise outside. People use a car whenever possible instead of walking or riding their bicycle. Trying to lose weight by dieting is futile, it just slows your metabolism, the way to lose weight is exercise, but people avoid exercise in ugly polluted car-centric cities.

If you go on a diet such that all of this is true:

  • You measure the calories ingested
  • You measure the calories exerted
  • The second are more than the first
  • You measure the fat percentage
  • The fat percentage goes up

… then people in medicine would be really interested in you.

America doesn’t have the most percentage of obesity. That would be American Samoa, Nauru or Tonga

The solution to counteract that..

  • A daily multivitamin+mineral+peptides etc.

  • Weight bearing exercise, to maintain muscle mass

  • Eat at least one meal a day OMAD

Not true.Those groups are genetically more muscular which causes them to have a higher BMI than someone who is just fat.

Plus, weight gain is a lot more complex than just ‘counting calories’. There are many medications that cause weight gain despite the fact that a tiny pill has neglibile calories. That’s because the pill is affecting the hormones and/or metabolism.
It’s also about ‘what’ you eat. Anything that stresses the liver (like ‘diet’ drinks) is going to be bad for weight loss. If the liver isn’t functioning properly it will be extremely difficult to lose weight without essentially starving yourself. Good quality fats don’t make people fat, bad quality ones like trans fats do. Americans eat nothing but shit. That’s why they are fat.

While the rate of metabolism can differ from person to person and it can be harder for anyone to lose/gain weight: You cant just break reality.
If you exert more calories than what you take in, there is physically no way for you to gain weight unless you are god itself and are creating something from nothing.

That’s very interesting about polynesian populations! That’s a lot of cutting corpses and weighing, to get to that results :+1: Now, you say that it’s JUST because of that? Keep in mind that Kuwait and Qatar have higher BMI on average than USA, too.

Normal weight gain as something to do is more complicated, of course, but the contrary would be against the law of thermodynamics.

Who is in the discussion makes no difference. It’s usually cutting corpses how people make up the models such that you get some measurements done (like circumferences) and you end up extrapolating lean muscle mass and so on.

It’s poverty, only the wealthy can afford to eat healthy and well in an economic environment where food is starting to go up in price astronomically, meanwhile the unhealthy ultra processed foods are created largely for the consumption of the poor. The dynamics is the healthier eating lifestyle will cost you more in money and the unhealthy lifestyles of eating is cheaper.

This is also why you’ll rarely see fast food corporate CEOs eat their own food because they’re designed purely for the lower strata of society.

You can see the differences between going to an expensive upscale grocery store in a wealthy neighborhood versus a grocery store in neighborhoods where poverty or lower incomes are the norm. The quality of food and the differences in that is very noticeable.

This also comes down to time where the wealthy have more time to themselves to cook and prepare healthy meals when they’re not paying others to do it for them versus the lowly worker working heavy hours who has hardly anytime at all to themselves to make healthier food preparations. Time being another construct weaponized by the wealthy over the poor.

To some degree there’s also self control and moderation versus no control in dieting as well but I would argue economic income is a very dominant part of nutritional health in our completely monetary society.

By the way, you think someone can gain weight while ingesting less calories than it exerts? You mean that they can, for example, eat a pebble which has no avaliable calories and gain weight? Wouldn’t that be offset by the people going down in weight because of accidents and suddenly missing an arm?

For a philosophy forum, some people truly have a tendency for aiming not to ponder.

Anyhow, taking the body as a thermodynamic system in the same environment, if it outputs more energy than it is going in as available in the food, the extra energy will have to be converted from chemical energy, most usually in the form of using the fat cells to do so, making the fat cells smaller in the process.

As such, that’s not a way to motivate people to be more healthy, but it is a sure-fire way that describes all processes of reducing fat tissue (unless operations). Even pills and such are included in that.

That feels like an oversimplification. Depression doesn’t even consistently lead to weight gain, so it can’t explain obesity on its own. Add in cheap processed food, oversized portions, convenience-driven lifestyles, limited access to healthier options, chronic stress, and the fact that our palates are conditioned to prefer hyper-palatable foods, and it starts to look a lot more like a system than a single cause. People tend to eat what they enjoy, and what’s been engineered to taste good isn’t usually what’s best for them.

Also, you should stop drinking diet soda.
