tentative, what you said my friend - liquidangel said slightly better. now allow me to say this to you my friend: what you are offering is essentially spiritual - you are asking humanity to upgrade and improve spiritually, which is utter impossibility without anything solid, physical to take place beforehand. you can try comparing this with marx’s proportionality between spiritual and material prosperity. hence turning solely to spirituality is little more than fantasy my friend. it’s not a compliment for me to say that i wish there are more people like you on this planet, but the fact is: you are a treasurous minority my friend. another fact, which you might not like hearing: there is a great chance that you don’t really know your own stance when actually living your daytoday life. i speak from experience: i’m 100% confident that i have no 100% control over my spirituality, culture status or mentality - i lose that control terribly often. but that’s only natural. can’t expect yourself to be a saint growing up with satyrs, can you my friend? anyway this is getting a little off-topic. are you mixed in blood tentative? if not, then you probably wouldn’t really understand the significance of the difference
Hi Uniqor,
The easiest thing in the world is to say that I’m the way I am because the world won’t let me be other. At some point, we have to take responsibility to rise above ourselves, in spite of ourselves. Is it easy? No. Do we always succeed? No. But to sit back and say, “that’s just the way it is” is defeatist bullshit. I have no cute answers for anyone - including myself. But that doesn’t invalidate my understanding. The practice of what we understand is always more difficult than our knowing. All that is material will eventually fade away. That includes you and me. It is our spiritual striving that will be the mark and measure of us. It’s always about us - all of us.
JT
“defeatist”? by saying that my friend, are you suggesting some kind of exisential battling that goes on for every soul alive? we have to battle for something right? so what is the ultimate existential goal? i’m trying to know just better about your stance here. and you must have a clear cut one, coz if you don’t then we’d better gave up right now, coz this looks to me is gona turn into yet another metaphysical endless rant-on
aspacia,
Do I believe we can simply walk over there and say “Look, we should all just get along.” and it happens? No, not at all. I agree that their current religion/way of life/choices are bent towards hurting us in many, many ways. I don’t want to let them get away with hurting innocent people. We do need to stop them. But, to get us a little bit back on track, How much must we deny Americans their own rights for security from this?
The Middle East is the way it is for now. No one person can just change that. It will be a long time and much changing of things before the (as tentative put it) spiritual dilemma we face is somewhat fixed. Their religion does not mix well with others. But, a lot don’t. How many times did the Christians (or subsection thereof) run about commiting other crimes that were completely justified by some claim of theirs? Do I agree with that either, no. It is domination and subjagation, and I don’t agree with it. You must fight back. But, we dont’ have to fight EVERYONE to do it. And there are certain extremes we should not go to.
As for the WWII example, it is partially because we ravaged Germany post -WWI that Hitler had so much backing and so many angles to work from. By we I mean the allied forces. Not just the US. And you speak of beheading innocent civilians. I agree, this is abominable. However, the nukes we dropped on Japan are also abominable. Yes, it was a war, but you want to talk innocents. How many people in Japan were against the war? We may never know. I’m sure the entire country didn’t exactly believe in the war. We poisoned generations of Japanese people with those bombs. There are still effects from those being seen today. Radiation poisoning is an extremely long term sickness. Killing them outright would have been nicer.
Do I have a solution to the war? Hardly. Do I believe I should lose all of MY freedoms because we are having a war? Adamantly no.
I live in America so that I can have the rights I have. I don’t want them all taken away from me, because who we are at war with wants all of them taken away from me.
Oh and as a small side note. Yes, I use paper. Almost necessity at this point. Did cultures who respected the planet use paper or parchment, yes. I disapprove of how we do this, but I cannot change this by myself either. Have I done things to try and get it changed on some level, yes. I wish I could do more at this point. Do I eat meat? Of course, so do animals. Again, respect and total preservation aren’t the same. Death and destruction need to happen. They are part of life. But, we will destroy this planet if we’re not careful, that’s what worries me. Our lack of respect for the planet and each other could possibly lead us to destroy the whole damn planet. What good would that do us?
P.S. I don’t wear leather. I do not own a gun, but I do own self-defense equipment.
Edit: Sorry forgot one point. Please preface all “we should” statements with I believe. I try not to use “We must”, so if I have, I apologize. I speak merely for what I believe would help us attain the goals that I would like to see. All personal preference here.
Uniqor,
If there is a battle, it is within ourselves. Yes, it is a metaphysical statement, and I have abosulutely no intention of turning it into a rant. You see it, or you don’t.
JT
the thing is my friend, when talking about metaphysical matters, few of us make it into the philosophy history books. the only ones that actually made it had the creativity and hardheadedness to come up with comphreensive “systems”. now nietzsche told me that those systems are no more than artistical amusement. would you like to tell me why should i bother even to think about half-bottled, foggy-mythty, two minute intellectual constructions that’s laiden with uncertainty? you see my friend, ilp is a great place for one to build up his ideas by ranting along, meeting up challenges that call for improvisation. just a thought
Uniqor,
I really should ignore this, but…
What are you talking about? A little clarity in your statements would be appreciated…
JT
(tentative friend, there is really no need to state your first statement in your last post. i’ve noticed that it’s part of your whole benevolent style, it’s your way of saying tentatively that “i’m seriously offended by your point so let me fight back”. oh friend you remind me of sir psyque. but… i really shouldn’t be saying this, hence the brackets. how’s my tentative detailing?)
this is the story of my ilp life - you tell me you don’t know what i talk about. it’s ok, i’m perfectly willing to make myself more convincing. the detropish frustration fears me. what i’m talking about can’t ever be understood by anybody whose intellectual consciousness is non existent (to see a conceptual brief on intellectual consciousness - there is a couple of aphorisms at the begining of the gay science). notice the brackets: tentative detailing again. anyway friend, let me ask you one more time regarding existentiality, that you started out of the blue when i was on about interbreeding en mass: what do you believe is the degree of freedom that one can rely on to construct and shape his existentiality? what is the purpose of making one’s existentiality into a particular model or mood? what is your metaphysical existential system - yours?
(to be tentative yet again: anwsers to the above will be greatly appreciated)
Uniqor,
It’s possible you need an intepreter, or perhaps I do… I still haven’t the foggiest what you are driving at, given this thread. I’m not particularly bright, but I don’t usually have this problem - with anyone. Is there anyone in this forum who could perhaps put your queries in a form I can understand? I’d answer, but I cannot figure out what you are asking/saying.
JT
never mind, tentative friend. better luck next time
Can we try to keep this thread on track please?
Thanks
A
Well i dont think our represenatives even care, they probally have their own agenda for power. I wrote my rep about the passing of cafta and how bad it was for the economy of the nation, i put in facts and figures on the subject. He writes back on the subject, but completly ignores my facts. He just says that its good for textile industries and corn crop producers. The treaty may help them for a month but then they will start to lose profits hand over hand because those people will undercut all our prices with sweatshops and poor farmers that have to do what they are told. plus all the other cheap mechandise that they make down there will be sold to US even cheaper that before, honestly how many items do you see that say they are made in America?
