Picture a thought experiment.
Two twins depart Earth in contrary directions in space, let’s address them as 1 and 2. Time goes on, and twin 2, unbeknownst to the other, start to self identify differently from how the other twin known that twin to be. Specifically, by the opposite gender. At that time, twin 2 flashes a strong light pulse right towards twin 1, with no indication to what that means. Let’s call that event, in the time frame of twin 2, as event Z. They are, say, 1 light day away from each other. Now, twin 1 sends several messages to twin 2 referring to twin 2 by how twin 1 knew twin 2 to be (without knowing of the significance of event Z), such that if they were both on Earth, that could be labeled as ‘misgendering’ by some.
When does the misgendering take place in the next messages? Feel free to open up on the different scenarios in each one
- The first message departs (from twin 1) prior to event Z, but arrives (at twin 2) after event Z.
- The second message departs after Z, but before the light from twin 2 reaches twin 1
- The third message departs and arrives right after Z
Does the misgendering depend on the frame of reference? How does relativity play into this question?
