The Supposed Horatio Alger Myth

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horatio_Alger_myth

So, two opposing schools of thought.

  1. You can move from rags to economic stability, via hard work and dedication to your enterprise, keeping clear headed and seeing with for sight.

  2. If you believe in no. 1, your are a racist, and the Marxists will hunt you down and kill you, and Hillary will be the next president one way or another, election be damned, you fucking evil white racist sexist pigs.

So, what is your take?

My father has two brothers. Raised in the same family, by the same hideously abusive mother. Uncle Don responded to the abuse by embracing it as the way the world worked, and perpetuating it onto his wives and kids. Uncle Dan responded by busting his ass, going to the military, then going to college, then getting a high paying job, and now he’s a millionaire. My Dad broke all ties with his family, made a new family via my mother, and decided that a life of simple pleasures, non-abusive relationships and the freedom to be his own person was really all he needed.

So it seems to me your material situation has an influence, but people can react to it in different ways, and become who the strive to be.

Anyone who succeeds through hard work and willpower is to be commended
And because it is such a no brainer then it really should be taken as a given

Why is 1) so desirable?

Is it not okay to allow people to lust for Orwellian bureaucracy and dialectical materialism?

Uccisore, 1 out of 3 is not good odds in accordance to psychological abuse.

Notice Michael Moore is opposed to the myth, even though he is proof of it?

Michael Moore is worth $50,000,000 according to Google. I meanwhile am worth umm… $65 bucks till payday.

Who is up for writing a joint essay entitled “The Proof Is In The Pudding: Michael Moore and the Supposed Horatio Alger Myth”
