I just bought my dad for his 50th birthday every episode of the tv show “cosmos” with Carl Sagan. I’ve never seen it though, I just heard rave reviews. Have any of you seen it?
I’ve never seen the series but I have read the book. It is excellent.
Sagan puts the cosmos in a comprehensible perspective without all of the tech talk.

Carl Sagan was the pioneer of SETI. But towards the end of his life he changed his mind and said that it is impossible for life to exist outside of Earth. He got some big math geek to help him out to prove him correct. But then the nerd proved Sagan wrong. He came up with some mathematical formula that put into account how many galaxy’s in the universe, with the average suns, and the probability of planets orbiting. Then the percentage of those planets to be at a good distance to have liquid water, etc., etc.
any comments?
That was the Drake Equation, and to the extent I know, Sagan believed it.
carl sagan is one of histories greatest humans and cosmos was one of the greatest thimgs television has ever given.
My brother and I enjoyed watching every episode of Cosmos on PBS when we were kids. They were terrific! (We even got the book and the record of background music!)

i have seen these before… they’re definitely worth checking out! they cover a HUGE range of topics and the language is always very accessible.
